Honey, I Shrunk The Outdated Technology!

February 6th, 2008 @ 1:36 pm by Mrs. Lovebug

For anyone anxiously awaiting the resolution to my mini typewriter placecard holder research, this blog’s for you:

It seems that this little guy is up to the task. Whether or not he’s attractive and/or affordable enough is another question.

My brain has literally split in two over this. One half tells me that they’re a cute, clever continuation of our theme. The other half says they’re silly and (much worse) ugly. I guess it all comes down to how much they’ll discount a bulk order…

At any rate, for anyone looking for unique or funky placecard/escort card holders - or even favors - miniatures are definitely something to consider. I saw loads of tiny, adorable objects on this website. Everything from tiny dressmaker dolls to tiny ice cream machines to tiny dictionaries to tiny pool tables.

I love dollhouse miniatures. I’m on a personal quest to find a doll house family that isn’t resin or freakish looking…it’s harder than I thought!

What about old typewriter keys as placecard holders? (the antique collector in me is pulling hair at this suggestion.)

i agree with Angel, what about tying in your typewriter theme some other way in relation to your placecard holder? If you could get old typewriter keys, that would be awesome. BUT, I loved your post yesterday about your paper chips you’re using for your favors….so here’s a thought. Could you use a normal white placecard holder (folded piece of cardstock) and affix 2 paper chips to it. 1) a paper chip with the first initial of the guest in a type writer font 2)and then below that chip, affix another chip with the first letter of the guests last name in a typewriter font. 3)Then write out the rest of the guests name next to each initial in a cute cursive. Make sense!?
In the example below, J and D would be in a typewriter font on one of your paper chips and then “ane” and “oe” would just be written out in normal handwriting (or from a typewriter!)
Example:
Jane
Doe

It would be cheaper too! Sorry this comment was so long!!! =)

I love mini anything, Miss Lovebug! But I’m not loving how they look with your placecards. I agree with Angel on the typewriter keys too.

I don’t think it’s ugly and remember, your guests will not have seen the $9-a-piece Sundance ornament minis.

I really like the idea of the tiny typwriters b/c it continues your theme in a different way than your key cufflinks/ribbon.

I think the real issue is what kind of bulk discount could you get.

Why not use a plain place card with an old fashion typewriter font (like courier or engravers) for the names and maybe add a picture of Typewriter key of thier last name. You can crop the photo for each letter and just print that circle. It could be really cute.

I used to be obsessed with miniatures when I was a kid — what a great idea for placecard holders!!

I love tberry’s idea! This theme/motif is cool because it comes with its own font.

Your theme is so cute. I was at Restoration Hardware tonight and I saw some really cute bookends that looked like typewriters. They were super cute - maybe you could somehow use them at your reception? Here’s the link to them:

Not to make more work for you, but my sweet tooth has this suggestion: http://www.streichs.com/cgi-bin/streichs/J44.html?mv_tmp_session=1&toggle=5938

…I can’t really tell what they are made of, but maybe it will help with the brainstorming. Sorry if it’s not the TYPE of thing you’re looking for. :-D
