Witty Wording Theme Help

February 6th, 2008 @ 12:41 pm by Mrs. Petunia

Sweet Betsy Dunlap will be taking care of the pretty side of things, writing out each of our table and baby escort cards, like these she posted on her blog last month:

I purchased the tiny escort cards (and their envelopes) from Paper-Source, along with 5 x 7 folded cards (though ours are in ivory) to be used as table name cards, meant to rest horizontally:

But besides announcing table names, which I already know I’m naming after Monopoly properties, I also wanted to use folded notes at the gift table, the cake table and the escort card table, but I don’t want them to just say “Gifts,” “Cake,” and “Escort Cards.” I’d love for them to tie in with the Monopoly theme somehow, but I’m simply not clever enough to come up with anything good (I just know I’m thinking something along the lines of “Pass Go…” at the escort card table, etc.).

Can the hive come to the rescue?

I think “Park Place” would be great for the gift table or place card table (as in “Park it”). “Community Chest” or “Chance” would be really cute for the guest book table. And I like “Jail” for the Cake table or your table

There’s got to be something from the chance or community chest cards that you could use- or even call the gift table, “The Petunia’s Community Chest.”

I like Tberry’s idea of having “Community Chest” and “Chance”, although I would have the escort cards as “Chance” and the guest book table as “Community Chest”. You might even make the escort cards look like Chance cards and have the guest book involve note cards that look like Community Chest Cards?

Maybe gift table can be “Free Parking”?
And Favor table (if you have one) “Go”?

Not sure about the Cake table. (Maybe Go to Jail?)

The favors at the tables will be saying Chance already, so not sure if that will work then again at the escort cards…right?

Not sure how this would work, but you could have the escort cards link in somehow with “Roll The Dice”, since that’s how you start the game, and the escort cards are at the start of the reception.

Maybe the escort cards would have a picture of dice on them, indicating their table number?

Or you could really go with the board game theme, and have people literally rolling dice to determine their table … might be a bit too out of control though :)

… p.s. I have to say, it took me ages to work out what those cards say .. I thought they were ‘Ah, Family Atkins’ and ‘Ame’ at first

lou’s idea of using a picture of dice on the escort cards is soo cute! i LOVE it!!! i am not creative at all, but maybe you can make a little card that would look like the chance/community chest cards, but bigger, and then in the same font as they say chance and community chest, write “gift table”, “guest book”, etc. and then instead of having the wording to say like, “you won a beauty pageant, collect $10″, say things like, “please sign our guest book to ensure that you always PLAY an important role in our lives”…ok, that was pretty poor wording, but do you know what i mean? that way it will convey the idea of chance and community chest without being confusing for your guests.

Is GO and Jail taken already? I would suggest GO the escort table because it is where it begins…

Gift table should be free parking. Guest Book can be Reading Railroad since it’ll be read right ;) If you have a buffet, you can put a sign where the line begins for the Short Line rail road. I also think the guest card table should be Go.

I know you’re using the “chance” cards as your favor cards … but those are the front, right?

The Chance cards in the game often have things like “Advance to St. Charles Place” (or another property). Or even, “Take a Ride on the Petunia Railroad?”

You could design the table cards to look like a community chest or chance card by using the Mr. Moneybags character and insert your own appropriate text.

Could this be helpful?

Escort Cards - without a doubt “Free Parking”, or you could use “Please Pass Go” or “Go Passes”

Gift Table - “Community Chest”, like a hope chest since likely these are gifts to help you set up housekeeping. “Luxury Tax” could also be cute.

I am stumped on the cake table, although you could make “Just Visiting” work.

(If you were having a champagne fountain or something similar, you could name it “Water Works”. Additionally, it could be a cute name to put on some tissues someplace.)

Good luck with your theme, it’s so fun!!

Ooh, now I’m really torn between “Go” and “Free Parking” for the escort card table…=)

“Community Chest” is perfect for the gift table!

I agree that the cake table is the stumper!

I like the “Luxury Tax” idea, possibly for the gift table as a bit of a joke, as long as you don’t have hyper-sensitive guests! You may even do something to involve the dice if you haven’t already, since that’s a pretty integral part of monopoly…

Not sure where, but you should find a place for “Pay School Tax” given your profession, Miss Petunia! :)

I hope you’re having a photobooth or picture area - then you can say use my favorite chance card - “You have won second prize in a beauty contest. Collect $10.” I think community chest could work well as the cake table — you’re all eating out of the same cake. “Chance” would work for the gift table because you don’t know what you’re going to get out of your presents.
