About Mrs. Hummingbird

A Fabulous Scrabulous Wedding

February 7th, 2008 @ 4:01 pm by Mrs. Hummingbird

I think I will probably cement my geekiness by saying this, but I have a lot of love for people who have wedding themes and are willing to work hard to carry them through. We have a bit of a theme in that we’ve got some video game/sci fi elements in our reception, but for the most part we’re just picking things we like and trying to work them together in a way that looks nice.

Anyway, I’ve been reading the blog posts of the lovely Miss Lovebug and Miss Petunia whose typewriter and Monopoly themes I absolutely love and it got me to thinking about what might make for a good theme wedding.

What is cool and fun but would lend itself to different elements of a wedding? I was racking my brain when I checked my Facebook account and my mystery theme stared right back at me in the form of a Scrabulous* request. Scrabble!
So today, because I think it’s too cool to pass up, and because I’m kind of at a standstill with my own wedding planning, I present to you lovely Weddingbee readers Miss Hummingbird’s Fabulous Scrabulous Wedding!

If you’re going to plan a wedding, to keep your tiles and thoughts in order, you’re going to need a planner.

Once you get your planning in gear, you’re definitely going to need invitations . . .
scrabbleinvite

And when your invitated guests arrive at the wedding, they can sign your awesome Scrabble guestbook!
scrabbleguestbook

You can give your hubby Scrabble cufflinks for his suit . . .
scrabblecufflinks

(FYI - They have a lot of cool toy/boardgame themed cufflinks if anyone is in the market for some.)

Deck your girls out in some Scrabble Necklaces . . .
scrabblenecklace
scrabblenecklaceback

Bling out your bouquet with a Scrabble charm . . .

And exchange Scrabble rings with your beloved!

Then, after the ceremony you can give your guests little Scrabble magnet favours
scrabblemagnets

And last but not least, sugar them up with your awesome Scrabble cake!
scrabblecake

Not only does it look cool, but it’s an awesome theme for boardgame enthusiasts, writers and word lovers alike! (And seriously, how cool does that cake look?)

Since I love this kind of stuff and since I’m eager to hear about other people’s wedding plans, I want to know - What is your fantasy wedding theme and/or what theme are you using for your wedding?

(* = Maybe it’s just me, but everytime I play Scrabulous, I end up singing a song about it to the tune of Fergie’s “Glamorous” - “If you ain’t got no tiles, take yo’ dumb ass home, S-C-R-A-B-U-L-O-U-S!”)

One of my brides/friends is a scrabble tournament player, so I’m always sending her stuff like the pendants and the book (that’s the first time I’ve seen that cake though!). You bet I’m sending her this post too. :)

Oh, and you can use scrabble tiles to set the mood for your font, as part of escort cards (corresponding last names letters), spell out table numbers and take photos (ala Miss Lovebug & crew).

Does anyone else feel like throwing a scrabble party?

That is an awesome idea. We are having a casino theme. We are having craps, blackjack, and poker tables for everyone to play. We are using chips and dice in our centerpieces. I am going to have casino something on our cake topper. All our paper products have a pair of dice kinda in the background too. It’s simply done. I didn’t want to over do it.

OMG I am a scrabble-a-holic. I also love scrabble-related schwag. (Case in point: I have a very cheesy t-shirt that I have actually NEVER worn, not even in the house, that says… stop looking at my rack!)

I LOVE YOUR THEME and all the cute scrabble stuff you found.

Ooooh, I love it! I have a really funny Scrabble-in law story. Maybe I should blog it.

Yeah, this has serious potential.

I originally asked for a Scrabble-themed wedding, which was shot down. Then, I asked for a science-themed wedding (you know, using beakers instead of candles, erlenmeyer flasks instead of vases, etc.), and that was shot down. Finally, I asked for a Steelers-themed wedding, and that was shot down.
My fiance is no fun, and our wedding will be themeless.

Love themed weddings!! We seriously considered a Scrabble-themed wedding as well since we love playing Scrabble together, but we went with a college/school theme instead since it was a bit more cohesive.

Aww those Scrabble cufflinks are just so cute. Who knew there were so many Scrabble-related things out there in the world?

julie - I don’t know how I got Mr. Petunia to agree to the whole Monopoly thing myself, to be honest: he’s been a bit of a stick in the mud about it sometimes, so we’ve kept some things traditional still, like cake, etc….=(

So this whole Scrabble thing sounds totally cool Miss Hummingbird! Just musing on it at this point or thinking about it more seriously? It’s so hard to commit to an idea, isn’t it?

(I especially love the cake!)

Hey ladies! Yeah I’m just musing on themes since we’re kind of locked into a style already with our video game tables and Star Wars cake - I call it geek chic!
Anyway, thanks for all your stories and for the Scrabble props. I love going through pics and coming up with cool ideas/themes.

My hubby and I set up my MIL with a Scrabble birth announcement. We “got the game started” before she showed up, set our first words, and supplied our racks so we could use words like SURPRISE, GRANNY, BABY, etc. We had to draw her attention to it though. lol
