A Preview Of Our Centerpieces

February 7th, 2008 @ 3:31 pm by Mrs. Daffodil

Last weekend, Mr. D and I had a chance to preview a sample of our centerpieces. We’re opting to go for low centerpieces for a few reasons. Firstly, I’ve found that it’s easier for me to appreciate and admire the centerpieces when they are low! (Whether or not that is just because I am short is a different issue smiley4017!) I’ve also found it’s easier to converse with your guests… While tall centerpieces are incredibly gorgeous when you walk into a room, it does block your view of people sitting across the table from time to time. The one exception that gets around that issue is when they are extra tall… but that also = more expensive!

Anyhow, without further ado, here are a couple preview pictures! While I love the overall look, I’m a little undecided about the color. Take a look…

Version A. White hydrangea, lisianthus, roses, and cymbidium orchids with hints of pink trim.

I must say that when the florist first brought this out, I was delighted! I thought it was so fluffy and pretty! But after looking at it for a little while, I felt like I really wanted a little bit more color. Enter version B…

Version B. Light green hydrangea, pink roses, with the cymbidium orchids and lisianthus.

The color I actually envisioned was more of a light peach-ish blush colored rose, but unfortunately the florist didn’t have any on hand. I feel like there is a little too much contrast with the pink here.

Which of these do you all like better? What do you all think about the green hydrangea? Any suggestions on what color combinations might work?

P.S. Our color scheme is pale green with hints of blush and some whites.

I like version A better too. What if you took out the orchids (unless that’s one of your must have flowers) and use blush roses instead of white roses?

I agree, Version A is prettier…Version B seems a little too hodge-podge. I think with pale green linens and white china, Version A would be gorgeous with your theme…maybe add pink ribbons to the vase, or pink candles around the base, if you are worried about adding more color?

I like version A, but I do love green hydrangeas. Could they substitute all the white hydrangeas for green?

I’m with Miss Sundae! I love the pretty green hydrangeas, but with the orchids only…and since your color is Green, it will pop nicely!

I agree the first one didn’t have enough color and the second one had too bright of a pink. How about using garden roses instead of longstemmed. They are fuller and more open and fit better with Hydrangea because of the softer feel of the flower. A paler or pink or a pale peach would look nice.

I like A, but agree that B would be better with a more lush, open flower instead of the rose — maybe a peony or garden rose?

i like A better. for more color, i think all the hydrangea should be green - some green and some white looks disjointed. maybe throw in the colored rose…maybe.

but i think both the green of the hydrangea and the pink of the rose could be toned down to something paler - is that possible? the green looks neon bright to me for some reason…

hmm, after thinking a little more, i think the reason A looks more appealing to me is because of the uniformity of color and the variety of texture. so making hydrangea green and roses pink might lose that feel.

anyway, for some reason version A looks like the hydrangea and rose have the slightest tinge of green - is that a lighting trick? if you have more of that going on, i think it would be perfect.

Ohhh both are very pretty. I think I like version A better, but either one will make dreamy centerpieces!

I think that I favor A as well- have you considered an “antique hydrangea”? They come in green with blush edges, and give it that depth and sophistication without seeming like a shot of bright color…. and perhaps rather than try to bring the blush in with the rose, why not leave the rose muted and have the cymbidium in a light blush hue? Typically they’ll call it light pink or purple but in reality, it is more mauve-blush than anything… just a thought.. or perhaps bringing in green garden rose varieties?? I love the overall idea- just play with the color to get it just right
