Have Typewriter, Will Travel

February 7th, 2008 @ 1:09 pm by Mrs. Lovebug

What do you get when you cross a couple who can’t Photoshop to save their lives, an extremely patient friend, and a bride hell-bent on an idea?

You get, among other things, a thirty minute hike into Sabino Canyon lugging a ten pound typewriter:

lb table2.jpg

Oh yes, I did. I dragged my fiance, my best friend, and my 1941 Royal KHM around Tucson for an afternoon, all in the name of creative table signage. The pages were made with oversized number stamps and cardstock. And if the set up seems familiar, that’s because it’s my abstract-wedding-theme-gone-awry fusion of Mrs. Bell Pepper’s and Mrs. Eggplant’s ideas.

That first shot was as far as I could conscionably march them into the wilderness without bear mace and canteens. Then it was off to Golf N’ Stuff to annoy the paying customers with our posed shenanigans:

lb table3.jpg

lb help.jpg

(hmm…action shot or cuddly shot?)

From there, it was a short gallop to the cheese fest that is Pinnacle Peak western town. Yippie to the ki to the yay.

lb table4.jpg

lb table4c.jpg

As you can see, the concept of switching out the numbers was too much for me.

lb merry.jpg

Stupid shot-thwarting stucco wall!

Assuming I can talk Mr. LB and our truly wonderful and helpful friend into a second photo session, round two will include a picnic, the bowling alley, the movie theater, a board game scene, and…nothing else that comes to mind.

The original idea was to recreate and capture our first dozen dates. But as I’ve lost the key to my pink cheetah-print diary and can’t remember otherwise, we’re just going for classic dates.

What dates am I forgetting? What other scenes would be cute?

I can’t add any suggestions… just declare your pure awesomeness :)

Cute idea! Maybe a baseball game? Maybe those stupid paint-a-mug-or-plate places (Color Me Mine)? A concert? A fair or theme park? Baking/cooking together? Art gallery or museum? Driving range? Bowling? Batting cages?

3.
violarulz says:

so cute!

ideas: a bistro, getting into the car, hailing a cab, a pub, the farmer’s market

4.
graciette2 says:

So cute! What about a restaurant and/or coffee shop? How about a “You’ve got mail” kind of scene? You on a typewriter and Mr. LB on a laptop! =)

5.
Buckeye says:

Um. Wow. Those are adorable, yours and Mrs. Eggplant’s are definitely the inspiration for my table numbers

6.
L says:

this is awesome!

Favorite restaurant? A wine-and-dine shot? Typewriter on a waiter’s tray? [Coffee shop would work well, too.]

Could you revisit any of your places you did your engagement photos?

Bumper cars? An arcade? Skee-ball? Whack-a-Mole? [Chuck-E-Cheese?]

Including your wonderful pets somehow?

Angel says:

This is a great idea…and I love the black and white photos. How big are the cards going to be be? I ask because the “2″ seems a bit small compared to the others.

Red says:

Love this!! How about some shots at home - maybe eating Chinese takeout or pizza, lounging on the couch? AND…..sitting in a movie theater, dinner at a nice restaurant (would be funny to see the typewriter in fancy establishment), at the zoo, at the gas station, at the grocery store………can’t wait to see the rest of these.

maverika says:

I think you need a shot at a bar drinking cocktails. Also maybe one eating spaghetti together at an italian restaurant a la Lady and the Tramp.

10.
maverika says:

Or drinking a milkshake w/ 2 straws.

MJ says:

OK, call me crazy (You’re crazy!) but what about something juxtaposing technology with the typewriter. What if you were both at a table in a library on laptops looking at a picture of the other one with the typewriter in the middle? Put you two in the background and the TW in the foreground; you could angle it like:

Mr. LB/ \Ms. LB
TW

Or, a coffee shop while you guys read the paper.

Or, Mr. LB bringing you flowers– that could be anywhere.

Or, the movies. You might have to go in, then sneak ino an empty theatre to take it. Maybe a friend could photoshop in a fun image on the screen, maybe an engagement photo, or classic romance movie scene.

Or, now this is not quite date-like, but I think would be cool– what about one like American Gothic but holding a TW instead of a pitchfork.

Michelle says:

I agree with Mrs. Lemon. That idea is so adorable. I love it. Recreating first dates is such a great idea. Grrrrrrrrr. I hate coming across better ideas.

Sarah says:

Okay, follow me here…shouldn’t there be a way to take high-quality photos of this existing typewriter, and use them to make a fold-your-own-paper-typewriter, a la this type of thing?

Or this?

Someone’s got to know how to do that. And that right there could be a place card holder. Or a place card.

A few Tucson attractions: Tanque Verde Swamp Meet, 4th Avenue, in front of Old Main on campus, Valley of the Moon, in front of a food cart (any on Oracle should suffice), Lost Barrio….okay I’m stealing this idea, maybe minus the 10lb typewriter!

Ok…so the good news is that I hear that mountain lions are TOTALLY intimidated by typewriters!

Phew.

16.
MissMandy says:

Pinnacle Peaks!! I love that place in Tucson. When we visit Mr. M’s parents, we always go there.

I think it’s a really cute idea that you got going there.

I don’t know the area enough to think of other locals. Maybe drive out to Tombstone?

17.
Angel says:

Hahaha…Mrs. Corn, you’re hilarious!

chinglish says:

Awesome idea! Patience always prevails when it comes to such great creative ideas - everyone will love the effort and how these came out! I definitely prefer the action shot over the cuddly shot.

21.
lisa says:

doing handstands. Or jumping into a pool. or watching a movie in 3D (with the glasses). Best dates I’ve ever had.

22.
shana says:

one of the cutest ideas EVER! love the two-strawed milkshake idea and the skee-ball. could you go dancing, or at least pose like it? visiting a pet store would also be adorable, though i don’t know where the typewriter would go.

23.
Jennifer says:

What a fantastic idea!!! This is so creative and unique, I love it :)

24.
Kayla says:

Oh my gosh.
Would it be wrong to tell you that you are my favorite bee? You are so gosh darn creative and funny.
Can I get an invite to your wedding? :P

25.
lolacola says:

you can do the classic long walk on a beach if you are near one. . .

26.
melbride says:

have you tried paint-balling (i know.. who does that.. hehe), bowling, popcorn eating at movie theaters, indoor rock climbing, cuddling next to a fireplace

27.
Jenniferb says:

Oops, Freudian slip! I meant Tanque Verde Swap Meet! Not Swamp. A few more: Rillito downs, Fox Theatre, on the 4th Ave trolley, at the Rodeo parade in a few weeks!

Miss Lovebug says:

Oooh, you guys are good. L, love the idea of making a waiter balance the typewriter for a restaurant shot.

We’re a bit limited, being in Tucson (no beach, no cab-hailing), but I think the arcade could be fun.

JenniferB: 4th! I didn’t even think of that.

Penguin: yeah, it’s a bit of a project, no lie. But we’ve had fun goofing off and getting weird stares from people.

Angel: Good point. I think we’re going to try 8×10s, to make sure all the numbers are visible.

Corn: omg. You laugh, but yesterday we went hiking there and saw 4 deer. Instead of just enjoying the view, I was like, “um, that means that OTHER, MEANER animals are around. let’s go.”

beanchar says:

Another vote for your utter awesomeness. And your HAIR in that first shot– such glossy perfection!

What about ice-skating or roller-skating?

Jessica Lynn says:

what an a-mazing idea!! i wish i had a theme to carry throughout my wedding like you do!!! can’t wait to see the ending results!!

31.
C says:

how about bowling? baseball game (yay for spring training!), reading newspapers?

32.
jnicholea says:

This is so great, way to carry the theme throughout! I do think you should do something at the the movie theatre. Is there a drive-in in your area?

33.

Miss Lovebug says:

beanchar: lol - yeah, that’s a fluke fer sure. Drive in! oooh…but then there’s the nighttime lighting issue. Hrm..

34.
pinkgerbers says:

You have to go to that pie shop on Mount Lemon. Especially right now with the weather, you can get a snow shot. I know I always went there for dates growing up.

Maybe Mama’s Pizza - the huge slices would make for a funny shot.

A park on the swings? Put the typewriter on the baby swing

35.
MissTeaberry says:

just wanted to say that your hair is beyond gorgeous on that first photo!!
