The Search For The Perfect Shoe

February 7th, 2008 @ 9:28 am by Miss Cupcake

I used to call shoes “shoes” because, um, that’s what they’re called…. but since watching shows like Project Runway and What Not to Wear, I have learned that the real style-mavens of the world call them by their singular name — it is not a pair of shoes. It is a shoe. So, I am looking for “a shoe” for my wedding that will accomplish the following:

• thou shalt make me taller, but not quite as tall as Mr. Cupcake (who is only about 3.5″ taller than me)

• thou shalt not make me grimace in pain and curse the day that I bought thee

• thou shalt look dazzlingly handsome with my vintage-esque Casablanca gown

• thou shalt not cost so much that I feel the need to wear them to work with jeans after the wedding in order to justify the cost (even if they are just that cute)

I have never really worn a peep-toe heel, but for some reason that is all I am drawn to when I look at wedding shoes. There is something classic and sophisticated about them, and classic and sophisticated is what I’m pretending to be on my wedding day!

I haven’t done tons of searching yet, but on My Glass Slipper I did find the following contenders:

Touch Ups “Abby” • 1.875″ heel • $47

Colorful Creations Style CC81630 • 2.75″ heel • $56

Nina “Celine” • 2.5″ heel • $99.95

Touch Ups “Melissa” • 2.75″ heel • $82

Caparros “Val” • 2.5″ heel • $89

Cynthia Rowley “Trilogy” • 3.5″ heel • $210
Definitely too high of a heel, but look how pretty they are…. sigh….

Stuart Weitzman “Tallulah” • 2.5″ heel • $255
By far my favorite of the bunch that would give me the perfect amount of extra height….
unfortunately, also the most expensive!
Come on Tallulah, don’t you want to come home with Miss Cupcake?

Where have you found your perfect wedding shoe? Are there any other adorable 2.5″ peep toe pumps that I am missing?

Have you looked at shoebuy.com? I just ordered 2 pairs of shoes from there…they are supposed to come today (I can’t wait to try them on!)

They have a pretty wide selection of shoes, including peep toe. Also, if you create an account with them, you get an extra 10% off. That plus their free shipping and free returns policy is a great deal. I ordered my shoes on sunday, and they are arriving 4 days later.

I also used my visa extras website and was able to get $15 off $75.

I love Blue Tux Shoes. In fact, look at these little numbers. And yes, they have a blue sole. :-)

I’m wearing these by Kenneth Cole Reaction. They are 2.5 inches in height and comfortable. I also have the exact same pair in brown satin.

I wore the J Crew HAdley and LOVED them. They were comfortable and the silk charmeuse was heavenly. They even have a little knot detail!

I don’t think they carry them anymore but I did notice a similar style on sale:

And also a couple of similar styles not on sale:

I tried on both the Cynthia Rowley’s and the Stuart Weitzman’s. Just by seeing a photo I LOVED the SW’s even more, but when I tried them on — I have to tell you — the CR’s looked sooo much better on.

The CR Trilogy was my wedding show (see them close up in my post “The Bride Gets Dressed” http://www.weddingbee.com/2008/02/03/the-bride-gets-dressed/) and I loved them. BUT I had to have a back up shoe because they were not comfortable for longer than a few hours. GL!

I’m wearing the Touch-ups “Abby”. But my FI is only a couple inches taller than me, so I needed to stay under a 2″ heel.

definitely check out shoe buy.com … i just bought my wedding shoes from there (dyeables erica) and the shipping was free and if i don’t like them/heel not the right height, i can send them back because they pay return shipping, too. i got them last week and used coupon code “valentines08″ *i think* and i got 20% off and then additional 10% off, like cgeniew mentioned!! i think they went from $60 to $43 and free shipping is always a great incentive to buy online! :)

I wore the SW Tallulah’s and was really happy with them. The shoes were suprisingly very comfortable and looked great. I also had a hard time finding the right shoes w/ the right height, but these were perfect. I put some jelly inserts in them and they felt great. The only thing I would warn you about is that they are a naturally narrow shoe. I looked at reviews online and people suggested ordering a wider width than you normally wear. I ordered the W width and thought it was perfect. If your feet are even slightly wide, I would order the W. The regular width probably would have pinched my toes somewhat.

I have the Stuart Weitzman “Glotallulah”, which are identical to “Tallulah” but have small crystals across the peep-toe (mine are also black). However, they are the most comfortable heels I have EVER worn. This from someone with a size 10 foot that almost never can wear a heel if it isn’t a wide. The good thing is that they are dyable, so you could always color them to something more wearable after the wedding. I got mine at the Zappos outlet here in KY, but I know they have them on their website also.

P.S. I just wanted to add, I went with Dyeables “Kara” with a half inch heel for my wedding, and THANK GOODNESS I only had to wear them for 45 minutes. I even got a wide shoe for my Flintstone feet, and was still in pain! If you go with one of the dyeable types, you may want to invest in some foot petals or the like, because they most definitely are not designed for comfort!

I’m wearing the Touch-ups “Abby” for my wedding - and while I’ve only worn them around the house, so far they’re very comfortable!

I bought my shoes from my glass slipper.com as well. I got the Dyeables Onyx in a 3.5 heel. They are BE-utiful and so far pretty comfortable. (although I haven’t walked around in them for THAT long). Anyway I know they sell that shoe in lower heels on other sites. I just looked and I didn’t find it on myglassslipper.com but i found one here:

http://dyeablesshoes.stores.yahoo.net/dy-40603ss.html

And when I was looking for the onyx style I also found these that I thought were really pretty.

I also was looking at (probably a higher version) of that Stuart Weitzman shoe but $250?!! I couldn’t do it.

Dear Miss Cupcake,
Thank you for finding my shoe for me!!! The “Melissa” is EXACTLY what I wanted!!!!!!! i cannot thank you enough!!

Jaime says:

I have the same dress as you! Although my “shoe” is not a peep toe, here are the ones I got to go with that dress: http://www.ninashoes.com/-(263)-Powder%20Sand%20Luster-(4471-8Z3VN2).html

I have the dress in ivory, and the color of those shoes goes really well with it. They are pretty comfortable - I have already worn them to a cocktail party to break them in.

Thank you all for the great advice and links! Looks like Cupcake’s got a bit more research to do :-)

Jessica Lynn, I love the Melissa too, and my MatOH said the same thing after she read my post!

Mrs. Onion, I LOVED your wedding shoes….. if only they weren’t so high! :-(

Hi Cupcake!

Like so many others, I love shoebuy.com and they have frequent 20% off sales and no tax (plus free shipping both ways, as mentioned above.)

If you want to be able to wear them again, you can always do with a dyeable shoe and pick a pretty color or black to change it into after the wedding. Here are all the peeptoes from dyeables:
