About Mrs. Penguin

Happy 2 Year Anniversary Weddingbee, Yippee Woo Hoo!

While I wasn’t an O.G. Bee, I have been a reader in this community for almost a year now, and I can’t believe what an incredible resource it has been for me and all brides I know! But, on the flip side, it’s turned into a slightly unhealthy addiction. I love me some Weddingbee, and I’ve become slightly obsessive about how I soak in all the info. Here’s how my computer looks at any given point in the day:

b131157

Check out that sweet tabbing action. As you can see, I always have one dedicated window open to 3 tabs: Weddingbee front page, Weddingbee Boards, and BeeTV. I hit refresh every 10 minutes, as if on cue, to see what new information has surfaced.

This is straight up unhealthy, yo.

Share with us your Weddingbee addiction stories below.  Feel free to comment as Anonymous if you’re totally embarrassed.  Which you shouldn’t be.  Pengy feels you.

Hello, my name is Jenniferb and I have have been a regular user for 10 months and 2 weeks. The first thing I do after a vacation or an extended period away from the computer is read ALL of the posts while I was away. I bore all of my friends in family with stories that begin with “today on Weddingbee Mrs Corn posted about her….” and “OMG, Miss Cupcake postred a picture of my wedding dress!” I get married in 8 months and 3 days and plan to check Weddingbee and estimated 4,000 trimes between now and then.

Impatience

I have an RSS ticker that checks every 5 minutes for updates to anything I have an RSS feed for, which, of course, has WeddingBee right at the top of the list. As soon as things are up, within a couple minutes, I have a little scrolling bar across my Firefox that lists the name of the new article. It’s FABULOUS!

I’ve been reading weddingbee for over a year now–but I’ve only been engaged for about two months. I love me some major weddingbee. I check my email, Facebook, and then weddingbee. I’m addicted!

My name is teeners, and I too, am a weddingbeaholic. I check it first thing in the morning right after my email, throughout the entire day, and right before i turn off my computer before bedtime. I now want to have ten million weddings so I can do all the cool things that are posted here. It is a problem.

Dear weddinbee,
How I love thee. Our relationship has only been going on for a short month, but I feel as though our love has grown to new heights. You are my addiction, my escape, my everything. But really, the affair needs to stop here. I need to get work done. I need that PROMOTION so I can afford the videographer. But alas, I just can’t quit you.

I got married almost 6 months ago and still check out Weddingbee daily. I tried to detox after the wedding, and though I don’t stalk all of the photographer blogs I used to (down to 2), I’m still strong and steady with checking in on Weddingbee. I even started my own blog for the hell of it. I don’t have wedding stuff to write about anymore, but I plan to post some projects I completed for my own wedding down the line.

I am not engaged and I subscribe to probably 30 or 40 wedding related blogs, but wedddingbee is always the first thing that I check in my google reader.

I have 18 credits, and most of my hours in the library are broken up by “bee breaks”. I talk about the bee’s as if I know them. Seriously, the symns for the ladies are starting to crop up in my everday speech. Sentences such as “The other day, Miss Penguin posted about …..”

I sit in the back of my classes so that others can’t spy on my addiction. I am working on steadily reading through the archives, starting with the Mrs.’, I have read through Ant, Apple, Beetle, Bell Pepper, Bird of Paradise, Bluebell, Blueberry, Butterfly, Butterscoth and Caramel.

Half of my classes don’t have internet, so I devote an entire browser to loading tabs full of weddinbee goodness and read it all while offline.

I have a huge favorite folder in my browser called “Weddingbee Ideas To Steal” hehe.

Yes… I also am a WB addict. It’s true. I’m also guilty of leaving it up on a tab pretty much any time I am logged into a computer.

My darling husband always makes fun of me for being on it so much and he said he is going to start a competitive site called DudeBee.

He will be Mr. Dude. Then he will get recruits and name them things like Mr. Bro, Mr. Guy, Mr. Pal, Mr. Chief Mr. Homie, etc.

My finace knows who several of the regular contributors to weddingbee.com are. He jokingly asks me about Ms. Lovebug’s typewriters, Ms. Penguin’s invites, etc. I was actually glad to be home sick with an awful virus because I could read weddingbee all day. I think I commented on every post the day I was home. I’m not even going to get into how it has cut my productivity at work….Shh!

All I can say is that I am glad that I am not alone!!

I didn’t even learn about Weddingbee until AFTER I was married, and yet here I am every day lapping up the sweet, sweet honey. (Is there a prize for “MOST PATHETIC ADDICT”??)

Working from home and being in a hermit stage of life w/mr beanchar, Wb has become my social outlet. A real-life friend invited me out for drinks next week and I caught myself wanting to check the beeTV broadcast schedule before committing to a day/time.

(NOW can I have that MPA trophy??)

Weddingbee has revived the fun giddiness of elementary school girl-crushes– I want to make each and every one of you a lanyard! Ironic, as the site is all about marrying icky cootie-ridden boys! ;)

omg! what perfect timing for a post. My fiance and I agreed if he doesn’t get to watch tv during dinner, I’m not allowed to checking weddingbee during dinner either!

I know, I’m at an all time low, since waaaaaaaaaaay back in the day, when I used to follow Mrs. Bee’s xanga blog!

Nevertheless, Mrs. Bee and weddingbee has been an enormous source of information, humor, design and comradarie amongst brides! I am even more appreciative of its existence now that I am actually engaged and planning a wedding!

Just the other day I was thinking about how my addiction to Weddingbee may need intervention or even … rehab! Seriously, I’m considering some sort of structured cutback b/c the obsession is a little much. It started a little over a year ago, when I wasn’t even considering planning a wedding (just helping with friends’) and now wb has carefully cultivated an MS-style (only, you know, better) obsession with weddings.

But I’m also proud to say that I’ve introduced weddingbee to friends who’ve also become addicted (I think that makes me a dealer, right?)

For over a year… even way before I was even engaged I scoped out weddingbee daily. It helped me to be a better bridesmaid to one of my best friends who married in November. Even after she was married, because of weddingbee, I was able to self diagnose her with PTWD as she began obsessing and helping me plan mine in the first two weeks of my engagement. I KID NOT! It also helped to create a bond with a knew co-worker who was at the time also planning her wedding. Weddingbee is like crack and I’m hooked bad! Just think, now I’m really planning my own wedding!! Oh the horror of it all! Haha.

we’re not even engaged yet and I’m an addict… I’m going to blame it on Miss Peony, I’ve been reading her xanga for a while…. I’m kinda lurker like that. I don’t even remember how I found her xanga. Blogging is SO COOL, I tell my boyfriend about the exploits of my “blog buddies” as if they’re people I actually know.

I’ll need to ween myself off of blogs once I have a real job again.

I got addicted to Weddingbee when looking for crafty things to do for the wedding…

Before the wedding I’d check it out every day at work and home. I’ve been married since Oct and still check it out! It’s got great ideas that you can definitely use in non-wedding settings too!

superaddict here! i found wb back in july when i was just starting to plan & between jobs. the addiction began easily bc there are so many delicious new posts, all the time, and good god you cant miss one so you have to read back 4 pages if you miss a weekend because what if it’s THE ONE POST you realllllly need to read?!?! sorry. i also am guilty of staying up late to catch up “are you coming to bed or going to read wedding bee all night?”, talking about the bees to my FI, reading (and recently, posting!) at work, multi-tabbing (esp the boards, i ilove to read thru & open all the tabs at once, then flip thru… i dunno why). im also guilty of staying a little later at work to read wb. i also read wb on my iphone at random inappropriate times, altho i use my hand to shield the screen if im on the bus or something. i tried to hide my addiction from FI for about 1 second but now he understands that it’s like checking email or the nytimes headlines online, i just have to do it every hour or so to survive. at least until the wedding in june… right?

i don’t know what i’ll do once i get married and start weaning myself from this site. i mean i’ll have to cut down, i’ll be married after all and will probably have “married” tasks to attend to like, folding socks or something.

but it’s too sad to think of. i will have major withdrawal symptoms when i realize i shouldn’t check it 80 times a night anymore. i am so glad to know there are others out there who are as bad as me!

I see an intervention in my future if my addiction continues… I’ve been married for six months but cannot tear myself away from the weddingbee goodness. Jessica Lynn - my friend told me I should get that privacy screen too!

My name is Vivian and I too, am a Weddingbee addict. I created a blog to “audition” as my friends call it, to become a bee. And after I was politely declined, I was in mourning for a couple of weeks. But even that couldn’t stop my additiction. I’m late for work b/c I’m on WB. I work less b/c I’m trying to sneak a peek on WB. And I go to bed at ungodly hours b/c I’m on WB.

I have even been known to be on the aircard while travelling to/from Mammoth in the car, reading weddingbee to the FI. :(

I read this post while secretly mainlining Weddingbee at work.

I became addicted to WB while doing lots of DIY for my daughter’s wedding last year - and I’m still here; that’s how badly I’m addicted.

Now I’m doing lots of DIY for her friends’ weddings - that’s my excuse anyway. People keep asking me - “How do you know all this stuff about weddings?!!” ;>) This place is a giving me a great education.

And I hate writing, but am so contemplating my own blog!!

And I have so many posts saved in my faves that I am now going to have to start organizing them into folders.

Miss Cupcake (message)  1,169 posts, Bumble bee

One momentous day last spring, my now-sister-in-law muttered five simple words: “Have you heard of Weddingbee?” Within about 7.2 nanoseconds, I was hooked!

Before Weddingbee, I ignorantly thought theknot.com was the only wedding website out there. I checked out the boards, but I just couldn’t get into it like some girls and every time I posted anything I had to read over it 12 times to make sure I wouldn’t get attacked or ridiculed for saying anything stupid. Weddingbee introduced me to the world of Wedding blogs, which gave me a whole new outlook on the creative ideas I could execute to make our wedding truly “ours.” It showed me that a group of young women planning their weddings could actually form a welcoming community. Who knew??!!

The addiction started while I was at my last job, where I had a LOT more time to do nothing, and I was a frequent poster! At my new job, I only allow myself time to peruse on my lunch break (which means I hardly ever leave my desk for lunch!), and when I get home at night it’s the first thing I do after kissing Mr. Cupcake!

oy, guilty as well…

i log into facebook, email and weddingbee within seconds of turning on the comp in the morning, compulsively check for updates, do a last night check before bed, and get withdrawals over the weekend when the postings slow down.

funny thing is i’m not even engaged. my mom sees the comp screen at home routinely set to weddingbee and she keeps asking me if i want to get married. :P

and yes, i’ve been a loyal reader since day 1 and BW(Before Weddingbee) when mrs. bee used to blog on xanga!

I am absolutely an addict. Thing is, I’m not yet engaged. Oh dear. The first few months of my addiction, I had to hide it from people, because OMG I AM NOT ENGAGED YET (…this sounds so much like I’m addicted to heroine or crack or likewise). However, my boyfriend of a few years has now come to terms with my addiction, and is totally cool with it (thank goodness for my understanding honey).

I liked how one girl said she checks it before she checks her e-mail. I can relate! I love you ladies!
