About Mrs. Lovebug

Word

February 9th, 2008 @ 8:53 pm by Mrs. Lovebug

Here it is, Volume III of Lovebug’s Wedding Wordfest!

scrapnel
noun
shards or slivers of paper, leftover glitter, and other post-craft detritus that sticks to clothing, hair, carpet, pets, etc.

It wasn’t until I got off the front-row stair climber that I realized I had scrapnel stuck to the seat of my pants.

groom broom
noun
figurative (or literal) broom or other club-like weapon used for beating apathetic, uninvolved grooms into participation in wedding planning

See this miniature Chinese take-out container template? You WILL construct two hundred and fifty perfect pieces or I WILL get out the groom broom.

theme park
noun
metaphorical fantasy land where brides planning themed weddings spend unhealthy amounts of time

Mr. Lovebug was hoping to get a delicious churro in his fiance’s theme park, but all he found were some dirty typewriter keys.

bestmancipation
noun
the (often long-overdue) severance of an unnaturally strong attachment between a groom and his best friend, initiated upon marriage

Bestmancipation can be painful, true. But with counseling and encouragement, even the best bonded buds can make room for a new wife.

Okay, honestly? I frequent Weddingbee just hoping for another of these hilarious wordfests, Miss Lovebug. I feel so honored to have met you in person, as I am quite certain you will be a famous author shortly. Should have gotten your autograph! What was I thinking?!

Betsy! I’m the one who should have asked for YOUR John Hancock, Miss Guggenheim! ;) Make a deal with you. I’ll write the novel, you design the cover?

You’ve made my day! Actually you’ve made my day on multiple occasions, but this post takes the cake.

My fiancé’s Italian. When we first met, his English skills were next to nothing. Nearly two year’s later I’m proud as a peacock at how far his fluency has come, but inevitably every day brings new words into his world.

Wedding words have been especially difficult- table runner, charger, slip, etc. Some words just get a blank stare (garter), some get grossly misinterpreted (I had to explain that an escort card has nothing to do with prostitution & DEFINATELY nothing to do with the Bachelor Party).

My favourite however is when he can’t remember a word & creates his own. He can’t for his life remember the word ‘groom’. So he calls himself the ‘broom’. Which is why I got such a kick out of this post and your ‘groom broom’.

So what do I threaten him with? The ‘broom broom’?
