Ooooh thanks Ms. Shortcake. So here’s my fitness question for Mr. Shortcake:

My arms are flabby in the back area and in the area where my arm and back connect (*as my mom says, my 2nd set of boobs). I’m not overweight - weigh 114lbs at 5′3 but because I hurt my shoulder I am really restricted to working them out. However, if he knows of any great arm exercises to tone and firm them w/out too much strain on the shoulders that would be GREAT!

Here is my question:

I’m trying to be more proactive about my vitamin supplements. I take the one a day plus prenatal and I thought I was doing fine until I read an article on Hillary Swank and she takes 45 plus vitamins a day! Call me crazy but is that a little excessive? Here is the link:
http://www.wmagazine.com/celebrities/2008/01/hilary_swank

Anyway- are brainwave, flax, aloe c ect worth looking into? Some of these supplements cost a fortune and I’m wondering if they are worth it. Thanks so much!

HOT!
What are the best upper body exercises to make a bride buff for her dress? Especially back, chest and jiggly arms - oh, and side boob!

Also, what are the best ab exercises he can recommend?

Thanks!

Amy says:

what’s a good wedding day meal for brides? I am getting married at noon so I guess my question is what should I eat that morning?

dani says:

What is the best excersize to get rid of “bra fat?”

and

What is the standard number of reps to complete when trying to tone and not build? (bicep curls, for example. Should I be doing 50 curls with 3lbs or 75 curls with 1lb?)

PS - hubba hubba is right!

nicgac says:

The under arm flabbiness is what I worry about too, but I do a lot of free lifting in organized group fitness classes. Could I be building instead of toning or maybe I just need to keep losing weight? My arms seem big proportionate to the rest of my body no matter what I do!

kim says:

What are good exercies to tone thighs with?

9.
rebecca says:

is bra fat the same thing as the batwing?? (http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/arm-pit-flubber) that’s my worst nightmare… *shudder*

soon2BmrsJackson says:

what should (or shouldn’t) I be doing if I want to loose an inch or two around the mid-section? I am not over weight, but I don’t want to mistakenly create bulky muscle in that area by doing the ‘wrong’ type of exercise or too much of an exercise (if there is such a thing).

thanks for the advice!!

I need help in the thigh/hip/butt area big time!

julieulie says:

I seriously injured my back over the summer, and am having a sloooooow recovery process (though my doctor continues to insist that I do not need physical therapy). It’s bad enough that if I try to ellipitcal two days in a row, I have to take vicodin just to walk the next morning (see? bad injury!). Any suggestions on things I can do that WON’T aggravate my back? Swimming isn’t an option, and I’ve obviously ruled out running, and yoga just over-stretched it and made it worse, and in the meantime I’ve gained 15 pounds from turning into a couch potato, because I haven’t been able to work out (I went to the gym 6-7 days/week prior to the injury).

I hereby nominate Mr Shortcake for the August page of the “Dudes of Weddingbee” calendar.

Lucy says:

Playing off dani’s question–I’m doing 2 sets of 12 triceps curls with a 3 lb weight. I’ve been doing that for a few weeks now and it’s become pretty easy. I really want my upper arms to be sleek and toned, not big and buff. Should I move up to a 5 lb weight or add another set of 12 reps? Or just keep doing what I’m doing?

Barbara says:

I take a multi-vitamin everyday but I have been sick a lot recently (colds, bronchitus, sinus issues etc). Over the last 2-3 months I have been sick at least 3 or 4 times. What can I do to boost up my immunity and get ready for wedding planning?

16.
JenniferB says:

Beanchar! Ha! We should totally have a dudes of Weddingbee calendar!

My question is: I run 16-20 miles a week, and *try* to do weights 2 times a week. I am not loosing any weight (although I am toning). How many calories should I be eating to fuel me for my activities but to help me drop some pounds?
Thanks!

17.
Jennifer says:

What are some good ab exercises? I REALLY need to tone that area up.

First I would like to say hooray for not knowing exactly what he’s doing - it always takes me a few goes to explain what Mr Kangaroo does.

I’d love to know his take on the milk debate though (do you actually need to drink it?). I realise it’s not really wedding related but osteoporosis could affect our marriage in the future I suppose :P

sph says:

This is a very serious question: I want to gain a few pounds for my wedding. I think I’m pretty healthy but I just can’t seem to get my weight up. I love veggies and don’t like unhealthy food, but I am not excercising much. And no, I am not anorexic … and I’ve checked the obvious thyroid levels to be normal, etc.

I want to be at least 100 pounds (I’m 5′3), right now I’m a few pounds short :( - it’s been this way for many months now.

21.
Patty says:

I’ve been thinking lately of taking vitamin supplements. I know fruits and vegetables are instead the best way to get your nutrients, but let’s be honest I just don’t get 5/day. My skin is also prone to breaking out and I read somewhere that some vitamins can help clear it up. What you recommend a female age 27 who’s never taken vitamins before start with?

22.
kate says:

Do i have to exercise everyday? I go to the gym 3 times a week - about an hour each. Is it possible to lose weight this way?

23.
kristin says:

how do i lose inches from my chest without loosing weight elsewhere.. being 5′3 100 lbs and having a D cup is kind of crazy to me.

Joyful2 says:

I have celiac disease, and we’re trying to figure out reception finger foods that everyone can eat. I won’t be the only gluten-intolerant person there, but even if I was, it’s MY wedding, dang it!

25.
lori says:

First off,
thanks so much for doing this! I’d love to get a personal trainer, but I don’t think I can afford it after all of the wedding expenses…can you recommend a good video that will really kick my butt into shape? Also, this might sound dumb but is it better to run on the tread mill or power-walk? I’ve heard that running can be bad on your knees!

26.
Virginnyg says:

Weight Training Question

I am currently 8 months away from our wedding date. I’ve recently adopted a mostly weight training program with still a fair amount of cardio.

To ensure I’m building muscle and losing body fat would you recommend 3 or 4 days of weights? I’m currently at 3.

For the nutrition side, I try to eat clean (nowhere near what I probably should) you know lean meats, veggies, no starch in the evening, protein shakes….I read that for weight loss (I have 20 lbs to go) I need to cut down on nuts and nut butters and dairy. Would you recommend cutting out the dairy and nuts? And just sticking w/ a calcium supplement?

Thanks, Ms. and Mr. Shortcake!
