Option One, Two, Or Three

February 11th, 2008 @ 3:41 pm by Mrs. Milkshake

So I didn’t expect to be a one of those brides. You know the kind. The kind with two dresses. Three dresses. Four? Okay well I don’t want to get to the point of four. I bought my tafetta Alfred Angelo solely for the purpose of using it for my trash the dress, since my favorites, silk charmeuse, would make me look like a drowned rat the second I hit water.

Then I got to thinking, I could alter the Alfred Angelo to be that mermaid style that I like so much, that none of my top dress contenders boasted, and despite the tafetta swishing around all day and sounding very huggies diaper-like, it would facilitate my birdcage veil and it could function as my sole wedding dress. Here’s my bad photoshop rendition, I even made the sleeves a little skinnier.

Option 1: Alfred Angelo 1148, altered mermaid style

Option 2, Birnbaum and Bullock, silk charmeuse: $2700 + probably $400 for a rush order, + $300-500 for alterations at the fancy pants kind of shop it comes from (although it is made specifically for my body specifications to minimize the need for alterations…). The one thing I am totally in love with is that I can dance holding my train on either my wrist or my pinky and it would look fabulous. Is that brief effect worth thirty five hundred some odd dollars? Again, see my terrible photoshop rendition:

Option 3, random dress, $875, no train, silk charmeuse

I originally had no budget, but $875 seems like too good of an idea to pass up on…. but I don’t have the great train-dancing action. Originally I didn’t care for a train because of my outdoor ceremony, but that train is so great….

What do you think?

I’d actually stay away from the hand holding train option. A friend of mine did that for her gain, and her arm got extremely tired after holding it only a short amount of time. That’s something to think about.

A great accessory for any wedding dress is something from PremiumPearl.com! The accessories they have are sure to impress and leave you feeling even more beautiful on your special day.

I’m definitely digging the first option.

my friend did the holding the train thing and she hated it- she found it tiring and it limits movement. (plus maybe its a little Beauty and the Beast? which, is fabulous but not really mermaid /bircage style?) I think the $875 is the best ( I too dislike the sound of taffeta)

I really like the first option. It would be so pretty altered up a little! I’m not sure I love the last one, it’s a good deal, but it seems like a train would add SOOOO much.

I love the first one! I have a similar body size/type as you and I have to say that that style was the best on me also(although I ended up with something totally different).

I too think the train holding, while glamourous, would get old quickly.

I like the modifications to #1 and #3 is lovely, but remember that silk charmeuse is SUPER revealing even on a banging figure like yours— hello belly button!– and clings to everything making undergarments a problem. Your groom might be thrilled with your wedding thong, but do you want the whole guest list to know you are wearing one? If you own Spanx, I would go back and try #3 on with them and see how it looks before committing.

I say numba one. :) It looks great on you, from previous pics, and though it may cost you a bit to alter it to your liking, you can totally justify it with the price.

Dress #1 - if you did just the one wedding dress, you could justify paying to have it altered exactly how you want it. You would look awesome in a mermaid cut. Plus, it would look the best with the birdcage veil I think.
I agree with the others, the whole train that you can hold with your hand/finger would get old, and like another reader mentioned, reminds me of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST.

I like the first one best.

I am really like the last option. The first has more drama, but the last is so simply gorgeous.

PremiumPearl.com? Really? says:

Does anyone else hate spammers like I do? PremiumPearl.com sucks!
