Table Signs, Continued: Advanced Obsession

February 11th, 2008 @ 12:20 pm by Mrs. Lovebug

I don’t know whether I should be considered for an award, or for psychiatric commitment - but I believe I’ve just broken the record for longest distance traveled with a 10 lb, 60 year-old wedding prop:

After everyone’s fantastic suggestions of other places to take our typewriter scene table number pictures, I couldn’t resist the chance to capture a snow shot. Because, um, it doesn’t snow all that much in the desert?

So like the lunatic I am, I schlepped our typewriter 3.5 hours northeast to the White Mountains on our ski trip this weekend.

Yep. 208 miles, for ONE cute table sign. Ahahaha! (That’s my “I’m crazy, and I laugh in the face of my own craziness” laugh.) Luckily, our fellow travelers were very patient about it. And once my girlfriend found out how much publicity she’d get, she wanted in on the action:

Sir Typewriter (he is a “Royal” after all) is safely nestled in among the luggage.

Upon arrival, he’s chauffeured gently to his suite…

…where he settles in before ordering room service and some, ahem, in-room entertainment:

But the next morning, it’s down to the business of freezing his keys off for the camera:

And yes, I really did thrown that snowball at our photographer. Because that’s how I thank my friends for running out into the woods at 8 am for a pre-ski photo shoot. With a hangover.

As punishment, I was made to bear Sir T on my lap for the 30-minute drive to the lifts:

Later, making room for five people, seven suitcases, two snowboards, three pairs of skis, and a vintage typewriter:

Gently, now. That’s our star player!

In spite of being a bit of a hassle, I’m so glad I inflicted my insanity on everyone. I think the shots turned out pretty good, (though I can’t decide which one I like best - help!) It was a lot of fun, even if I sorely missed my hourly Weddingbee fix.

Now, who was it that said something about taking Sir T into the pool? Go ahead and dare me, people. Just dare me.

The phrase “mad, bad and dangerous to know” leaps to mind. *

But seriously, I applaud your commitment AND your good-sport friends.

I like the last pic. The first one is also cute of you, but Mr LB looks like he just touched something nasty (like a frozen iron typewriter!)

And as soon as you are through with all of your wedding crafting, I know you’ll want to take on this project where a guy modified an old typewriter to be the keyboard for his computer– complete with authentic “typing” sound to go with the key presses:

*being a literary gal, you’ll get the reference I’m sure

I double dog dare you to take Sir T to the pool. =)

I hate to admit this, but I wasn’t a big fan of your theme when you first announced it. I just thought it was a bit of a stretch and didn’t really see how it could all work out. But as I’ve read amazing post after amazing post, I see where it’s headed and now I’m in love with it. It’s incredibly clever and just about the best theme I’ve seen. Great work!

The typewriter posts crack me up! I absolutely love that you took it with you to get a snow shot. And I don’t see how you can ignore the double dog dare for a pool scene :)

My fav: You throwing the snowball. Something about it is alive. I think I may have even winced when I first saw it. : )

Great job, thinking waaaaaay out of the box and getting into some snow!! I love it!

p.s. I’m a fan of the idea of putting Sir T. on a diving board while you guys are splashing each other….ooooor…placing him in the lifeguard chair…with a whistle. :) :)

Just a few more ideas, because this is a lot more fun than job-hunting!:
-Sir T at the library with the two of you glancing fliratiously while deeply engrossed in thick volumes of Chaucer and Shakespeare.
-Roasting marshmallows in front of one of those claypot oven things. Does Arizona have those? I’ve seen them plenty of times in NM and TX…
-Go-Karts!
-I was just looking at attractions in the area, and saw the Pima Air & Space museum has a TON of potential!! [They even have a bumble bee plane! http://www.pimaair.org/collection-detail.php?cid=254&pn=1

beanchar: omg! that’s crazy cool! although I have a feeling that after the wedding, I’ll want to take an extended break from keyboards of all shapes/sizes.

Lucy: ohh, thank you so much. :) It doesn’t always feel like the most cohesive theme, but at this point, yeah, I kinda hafta go with it. So thanks for the kudos.

L: oooh, the library! Brilliant. I’ll definitely have to credit you as a source on that pic, if we do it.
