About Mrs. Shortcake

If you are planning a vintage wedding, one period-specific detail you won’t want to overlook is your bridal hairstyle. Besides your wedding dress, nothing can clinch that retro look like an authentic retro-do. One caveat - unless you are planning a full-blown period production, a vintage dress with a vintage hairstyle can look VERY costume-y. However, a more modern dress with a vintage hairstyle, or a vintage dress with a vintage-inspired modern hairstyle, looks lovely indeed.

EXCELLENT vintage hair-do how-tos:

NOTE: Most of these links are for 1940’s hairstyles, because many of the popular 1950’s ’do’s involved very short hair. However, the techniques used are applicable for recreation of many, if not all, of 1950s hair styles.

I ask you… Is there a creature in this universe more fabulous than Miz Dita?

I’m pretty sure there isn’t. ;)

Thanks Miss Shortcake. This is what what I am striving for. Had a hair trial this weekend and explained to them that I wanted Hollywood Glamour and show them pictures of Veronica Lake. Somehow it did not come out that way. The curls were going in different directions and when they try to correct it, it came out like a 80s wave. Very dissapointed. But I will have more photos to show when I find someone elase. If anyone knows of a stylist that specialize in Vintage hair styles in Portland, please let me know.

Oh to be Dita Von Teese– perfect hair, perfect skin, perfect lips. She rocks the vintage without looking costume-y. *SIGH*

Girl you hit the nail on the head vintage hair+vintage dress = costumey. I made this mistake at the last wedding I went to. Even thought it looked great, I am pretty embarrassed to have attended an event like that.
