Weekly Update?

February 11th, 2008 @ 2:49 pm by Ms. Dahlia

You may have noticed that I haven’t given a weekly update. Well, it’s been cold outside. And I’ve been out of town a lot. And I’ve been fighting off a cold.I haven’t really exercised much lately. But that’s about to change.

You see, Mr. Dahlia called me this morning to let me know he’d been able to track down this:

Image found here.

This is a BIG deal. We’ve spent the last 6 weeks trying to track one down, getting up early on Sunday mornings only to be told that we missed our opportunity by 18 minutes. And now, I’ll be able to exercise from the comfort of my own home.

Only trick is, I’ve never actually owned a video game system before (my old school Gameboy is not quite the same), and I’m really bad at video games. I know that Miss Bubblegum, Miss Hummingbird and Mrs. Snow Pea have already blogged about the Wii.

For those of you out there with Wii experience, do you have any tips for me? Anyone want to share their favorite Wii workouts?

I think Mrs. Snow Pea already mentioned it, but two words:

Cooking Mama

Awesome arm workout, and so much fun. :)

Remember to rest once in while. And wear the wrist thingy so you won’t send the wiimote crashing into the telly!

My favorite workout is tennis, but I really enjoy boxing and bowling with my fiance. We can’t wait til Wii Fit comes out. It’s fun to get some excercise into the day together.

Congratulations!
The Boxing on the Wii Sports (which should come with your Wii) is awesome for upper body/arms/shoulders/back/etc. That’s probably the most intensive of the group. I personally LOVE the bowling, but it’s not much exercise. You can get a few dips and lunges in there, but it’s not like boxing which can totally kick your butt!

Stock up on tylenol :) My husband and I, as well as a good number of friends all found ourselves sore after the first week of Wii ownership. Try the fitness tests. They are the ones that made me sore.

Boxing is SUCH a workout!
And for when you don’t feel like working out, Mario Galaxy is just amazing! I think we ended up playing for 3 days straight.

Buy DDR for Wii :) Then you’ll get the cardio workout as well!

Boxing is lots of fun too, just don’t play for extended hours… you’ll hurt…bad.

Definitely take it easy the first week or two…it may not seem like you are exerting yourself that much, but you will definitely feel it the next day…

boxing is a major workout and so is tennis…you should get the Mario/Sonic Olympics too, it is so much fun and def. challenging! And soon, there will be Wii Fit, so your legs can get a workout too!

I vouch for the Olympics game but even my husband says it is challenging for him. Lately, we’ve been playing Mario Galaxy (a non workout game) and we trade off on playing mario and being the second player who catches the ’star bits’. I am not really a gamer so it fits my comfort level and we get to hang out with each other. I don’t play wii sports or olympic games with my hubby cuz I am a poor loser.

Move any objects in front of you out of the way because you just might crash into it or damage it — i.e. coffee table

You’ve gotten awesome suggestions so far — Mario and Sonic at the Olympics; Cooking Mama; Wii Sports Boxing.

I’ve gotten myself a pair of wrist weights to wear while playing. It buuuurns so good!

I want DDR for the Wii. That will kick my booty. But I agree Wii Sports is a great workout. Especially the boxing. But I also like tennis.

Our house favorite is Rayman Rabbids 2. Can be a great workout and loads of fun to play with a big group (4 controllers). Wii Sports Boxing & Mario and Sonic at the Olympics make my arms burn. Need to up my Wii playing time to get fabulous arms before the wedding!
