A Summer To Remember

February 12th, 2008 @ 3:56 pm by Mrs. Jasmine

I can’t believe how quickly the months are passing by! When I first got engaged, it felt like time was moving in slow-motion. It felt like our wedding was never going to happen. Now it’s mid February and our wedding is just a few months away. We have a really amazing summer ahead of us and it’s approaching at warp-speed. I’m so excited for what will be a few months of travel, romance, and quality time with family and friends.

First we have our mehndi the night before our wedding, which will be held at my parents’ home in Los Angeles. The mehndi is a pre-wedding celebration with food, music, and henna. We’ll probably have some fun games and it will be a great opportunity for the families to mix and mingle before the nuptials.

The next day, we’re getting married– yay!!! The next morning, we head off to Santa Barbara for our minimoon. I’m looking forward to a couple days of rest and relaxation. We’ll be in Santa Barbara for a few days before returning to Los Angeles to visit my parents. It’s traditional for the groom to take the bride back to her parents’ house a few days after the wedding so she can see them.

After spending a night in Los Angeles, we’ll fly to Michigan where we’ll have our valima. The valima is a second wedding reception hosted by the groom’s family. Ours will have upwards of 500 guests, so it’s going to be a really festive time!

Then we head back to our normal lives in Chicago for two weeks, until we go back to Michigan again for Mr. Jasmine’s best friend’s wedding– he is the best man! The day after that wedding, we head back to Chicago for a few days to take care of loose ends and then we set off to Kauai and Maui for two weeks– our real honeymoon. Then in August, we head to London for the wedding of our very good friends.

Are your upcoming summers as busy as mine? What do you have planned?

I feel you Miss Jasmine. Our summer is packed to the brim with the most random things. We’re going to do the NYC 5 Boro Bike Ride and plan on signing up for a ride in Long Island as well as a few mini trips before and after the wedding. Our biggest break will be the honeymoon in September.

Your mini-moon in Santa Barbara in between all those events will be a great time for you and Mr. J to catch up on some much needed R&R (plus it’ll prep you for your super honeymoon!)

My summer is crazy with weddings… one wedding every weekend in June, another in July (total of 5), 3 being out of town. Fun fun fun. I’m singing at the ceremony for two of the weddings with my hubs to be. (I joke he’s a wedding singer b/c he is always asked to sing at friend’s wedding. [seriously... he's sung at about 10 weddings] Though I must say I am fortunate to have such a musical man around :) Oh, all that summer craziness and we’re getting married in early September.

my summer is crazy too! my fiance and i both applied to grad schools in the last few months and are finding out in the next few weeks where we got in. ideally, we will go to the same place. then we are getting married in june in L.A., going on a minimoon to SB, flying to Jersey for his groomsman’s wedding, then going to Europe for 3-4 weeks for honeymoon/budget traveler trip. Then we’re flying back to L.A. and moving to wherever we end up going to grad school (anywhere in the country). Whew.
