Damask Fabric

February 13th, 2008 @ 6:30 pm by Mrs. Sundae

After we decided on the color scheme (read: I was threatened by loved ones to stop talking incessantly about color combinations), I knew that I really wanted some black & white damask table runners. Said loved ones would live to regret their pushing because the end result involves manual labor, but alas. My Mom and I went all over looking for either actual runners or fabric to make our own, and when we came up empty handed we turned to the internet and found this:

I wanted the pattern to have more white in it than black and this fit the bill ($6.95/yard from Warehouse Fabrics). After some mind numbing calculations about how much fabric we would actually need, and after Mama Sundae agreed to the majority of the sewing, I made my first wedding related purchase. Then it arrived and I freaked out.

(Please excuse the monkey who thinks that a camera is an invitation for her to pose). I only had 2 weeks to return the fabric if I ultimately decided it wasn’t for me, which is a nightmare to an indecisive person. I again had the fear that the black & white would be too “harsh” for a wedding and since this was one of my first purchases I didn’t have much to compare it to. I wish that I could end this with a heartwarming tale of how I overcame my indecision and improved my overall quality of life, but ultimately I came to the conclusion that this the best option I found and I might as well stick with it. I do still worry a little about the choice but I love the fabric and I am stuck with it now! What do you think? Have you ever made a wedding related purchase and wound up regretting it?

i didn’t believe at “love at first sight” but just like that moment u learn to fall in love w/ ur dress it’s true. i think the most comforting things is to have things that u love that every time u see it you realize that yes, it’s “the one”….
as for my own planning, there are a lot of elements i truly love and some i am sacrificing totally loving. ultimately u’r gonna have to be okee w/ it at the end of the day.

I think that if you keep the tabletop decorations from having a bold pattern like the damask it’ll look amazing. It’s a bold statement, but it also speaks of elegance and simplicity. With that as a background you don’t have to have much more added to the tabletops for it to look stunningly beautiful.

That is GORGEOUS. I absolutely love it. I’ve always loved that black and white pattern, I just recently saw photos of a wedding that had the same style.

I LOVE IT. No regrets for you! The black and white damask is amazing and it’s even better paired with the green. I am a fellow green lover and have a very particular shade of “leaf” or “grass” green that I am attempting to incorporate into my wedding. I’m thinking of using the black, white, and green for a room decor in our home. Maybe the kitchen?

We used zebra print with apple green accents — it sounded crazy on paper, and just seeing the separate pieces freaked me out and seemed harsh and weird. But it all came together to look so rich, bold, and memorable. I think your damask approach will be just as gorgeous.

Personally - I love it. But that’s just because that’s what I’m using, so I’m biased. I think the high contrast graphic prints are fabulous - and you see the damask everywhere now, it’ll be easy to incorporate other items into your decor.

I LOVE your color scheme and your damask print! If it makes you feel better, YOURS was the color scheme/theme that made me rethink my colors! You have a great eye!

You, my dear, have saved me a lot of trouble! Thank you!
I’m using damask in my wedding also, I’ve seen this fabric at Etsy.com, but they always get sold out! And here they are on this website! *bows down to you*

Don’t worry the black and white isn’t too harsh. I think the contrast will give your wedding a unique and modern feel. White white white doesn’t cut it for me. The black adds a dramatic statement.

I haven’t made any purchase I regretted, but I do regret NOT buying something as soon as I saw it. My wedding shoes! They have been discontinued! NOOOOOO!

Miss Sundae, I think its beautiful. I am actually trying to find the cream/brown damask fabric as our colors are green and chocolate brown. But do what I do when I can’t decide on a purchase, I go ahead and purchase it and then sell it on craigslist or ebay if I decide that its not right for the event. Its a little extra work but less headache in the end.

I LOVE the fabric! I am using a black and white damask print for our wedding as well. The “twist” we are using is the incorporation of TWO colors as accents: turquoise and tangerine! I have been looking everywhere for fabric and paper…thank you for pointing to a gorgeous and relatively inexpensive print! Can’t wait to follow your planning on WB!

Love it! I’ve considering doing black/white damask with yellow - but I’m not sure if it’ll fit in with the venue. I say embrace your decision and march on!
