Although I’m not a veil girl, I am definitely an accessories gal. I just adore hair pieces, but not your standard tiara - I have great admiration for beautifully crafted pieces that are just a bit out of the ordinary.
With the help of my stylist, Stacy Pitt, I will get to have a few hairstyles on the day of the wedding to coordinate with my various dress changes, which means I’ve been hunting like a madwoman for the perfect hair pieces. There are so many amazing vendors out there who make the most delicate and fun things, just for hair!
Las Coronas by Mary Beth McGowan
I first saw a Las Coronas piece in one of my many bridal magazines and was struck by how different and elegant it was. I loved how it was not a traditional tiara or comb, but could be placed and molded to different hair styles. The pieces are created by Mary Beth McGowan who lives in Spain. The only con is that they are on the pricey side, but I really see the artistic quality in each one. It seems that you can order online, but each piece is made to order and require about a three month lead time. Also, check out the site’s archives for pieces they’ve made in the past.
Behold these beauties from Las Coronas.
This one is my favorite! I love how it’s tucked underneath and enhances the hair style.
Tiaras are not my cup of tea, but this one is so elegant and subtle.
Unusual and not something I could rock, but it is so beautiful nonetheless.
Topsy Turvy Designs
When searching through Etsy, I found Topsy Turvy Designs by Kim Brown-Dye whose is a costumier, costume crafts artisan/milliner. All her pieces have a great dramatic stage quality to them. If you’re looking for something fun and funky, I’d definitely take a gander here. I would love to see a bride donning one of Kim’s elaborate hats!
I ordered these beautiful floral pins to coordinate with my qipao dress.
I loved this set of pins! Only one set left…
I really had to resist ordering this. I heart feathers and rhinestones and this combination is just too cute. Sadly, I have no excuse to wear this on my wedding day.
Lynn is such a sweet person. I have yet to meet her in person (my appointment is not for another week or so) but just talking to her on the phone, you find that she really loves what she does. Lynn is definitely not new to the bridal industry and I’m sure you’ve heard of her or seen her work before. It’s all so stunning. My favorite aspect is that each piece has some kind of history because they’re all vintage remnants that Lynnrepurposes and wires into any type of hair accessory. For example, if you see a tiara design you like, but need a chignon clip, she can re-wire it. Lynn hand makes everything herself and also offers veils and veil restoration. The best way to reach her is by phone (212.772.1358).
The antique aesthetic is definitely here in this piece. It is so different and original.
The details in the flowers and leaves are just astonishing. It’d also make a beautiful chignon clip.
This feels like it belongs on a dress! It’s so delicate and detailed.
Have any of you considered alternative and/or unique hair pieces?
