About Mrs. Petunia

Hairy Magilla Gorilla?

February 13th, 2008 @ 3:39 pm by Mrs. Petunia

Mr. Petunia’s rate of facial hair growth is not really human, in my opinion: what you see below are before and after shots — the man shaves and a day or two later, wham, that’s what you have:

Hairy Magilla Gorilla? : wedding ft. lauderdale groom Facial

Hairy Magilla Gorilla? : wedding ft. lauderdale groom Facial01

But here’s the thing: although I don’t want him looking entirely like a mountain yeti come wedding day, I kinda have a thing for semi-bearded Mr. Petunia, and I’m in the midst of a friendly battle of sorts with his mother, who is threatening to nab him on the morning of the wedding and give him a clean shave, against my absolute insistance that he sport a bit of fuzz instead– though neat fuzz at that: don’t worry — even I’ll admit he looks a bit scrubby up above smile emoticon.

I think it’s interesting how differently women feel about men’s facial hair: we’re all over the spectrum on this, aren’t we? Do you also have “rules” for how your groom has to “groom” on wedding day?

I’m like you, I don’t mind a little scruffle - that’s who DF is!

But he’s all over the idea of getting a clean shave done the morning of the wedding - I figure it could be worse, he could want a full on beard! haha

That reminds me of my guy’s best man. His facial hair grows insanely quick and he sports a beard from time to time. For the wedding, he did neat fuzz (hehehe…reminds me of “church tongue”) which looked really good (so good apparently that I thought I remembered him being clean shaven until I looked at the wedding pictures.)

For my guy, he just trimmed up his goatee and had his eyebrows done.

I think it just depends on how you want him to look in pictures, or rather how you want to see him when you look back on the pictures.

My hubs DID have a full beard at our wedding, though he got his first ever professional trim-and-a-haircut about a week before the big day. (wait, that makes him sound like he’s a mountain man… he usually gets his hair cut at home and trims his own beard).
I thought he looked/looks very dashing and masculine with the facial hair.

If Mr. Petunia just trimmed around the jawline, he’d look scruffily handsome - stick to your guns! Maybe show some pics of scruffy stars like Mark Ruffalo or George Clooney to your FMIL to sway her.

hahah.. that is impressive! my fiance is quite pale and has dark hair that grows quickly, so he always has some sort of a shadow going on. i don’t mind that he has it, but he will probably want to shave the morning of just so he doesn’t look TOO scruffy. but i like the scruffiness too..hehe.

I like the fuzzy but neat look too, especially on mr guinness…hmm…something else to think about!

Impressive. That beats my hubby even. He’s like Homer, a second after he shaves there’s a shadow. His doesn’t turn into a beard for a few days, it just looks like a shadow till the 3rd day. Since shaved looks better on him, he went with the clean look at our wedding, though there was a shadow in the pictures of the reception. haha.
Mr. P looks good either way, tough choice.

Wow! My husband goes scruffy most of the time and bics everything one or twice a week. He asked me how he should look for the wedding and I told him he should decide based on what he wanted to see in the photos, since they’re his, too. I think he went with two days of growth on head and beard.

I get liking the in between look - I had a boyfriend I asked not to shave for a day before we’d see each other (high school) cuz I liked it so much. Pretty much over that now - but I think your request is reasonable you want to marry the person you’ve been dating looking the way you like them best.

You should get him to wax his brows. :P I think they’re so heavy that they draw attention away from the rest of his face and that’s not a good thing. He doesn’t have to get a lot waxed off, but a little more shape and less bulk in the eyebrow would do wonders, IMHO.

I “argue” with my FMIL about facial hair as well, but the other way around. I hate facial hair and scruffiness, and she loves bears. She is always pressuring my fiance to grow out a beard, but I continue to point out that he lives with me and not his mother, and it would be in his best interest to listen to me when I tell him to shave…!

Your FI’s like mine Miss Petunia. I love it when he’s scruffy. I don’t know how he’ll wear it at the wedding. I figure he’ll leave the scruffy since he knows I love it. Fortunately I don’t have my FMIL around to argue with about this!

heh…I made Mr Corn get a hair cut exactly two weeks before the wedding. the lady always cuts it too short so I wanted to make sure it was the right length come wedding time :)

This was a huge, huge point of contention between the previous woman in his life (mom) and the new woman in his life (me). She hates his beard. I think it’s great. Confounding the issue was his own opinion on the beard, which was “kind of fun for now, but not a long-term affectation.” During one of the many (!) discussions on it, he said “I don’t want to look back on the wedding pictures twenty years from now and say ‘what was I thinking?’”

I won. The beard stayed.

I never liked guys with facial hair, until I met and fell in love with mr beachar who has a beard (short and neatly trimmed) AND a ponytail (again, very short and always neat)!

What does Mr. Petunia think about all this? Does he have a facial hair preference for the big day?

My vote, for what it’s worth, is for look number two (with all neck hair neatly trimmed away, of course.) Guess I’m a full-on covert to the furry face lovers team!

Seems we have a lot of beard love at the hive: yay!

Sarah: I’m pretty sure I’m going to win this fight, too, lol.

Hope: the man has a pair of tweezers but I don’t think they’ve seen the light of day in some time, hee hee — I think he tried waxing once and was a baby about it? I’ll be sure to float the idea!

My dear Bean! First, hugs! Second, I agree that the neck hair has got to go. Third, the sweet man is so accomodating. In terms of what he thinks: A.) He’ll do whatever I want anyway, lol, but B.) I think he actually likes the bearded look, too, though I know that after a few days, it’s “got to go” because it just gets uncomfortable for him.

My FI has a goatee and I adore it. He always teases and threatens to shave it off, but it is such a good look on him, it better be there on our wedding day. I know it will be because he likes it just as much as I do - I guess it’s just easy to get me riled up sometimes. And his hair is cute too . . . he’s balding :) so he buzz cuts it super close. It’s fuzzy & I love it.

I have only seen my fiancé clean-shaven once in five and a half years and I can’t say I particularly liked it! Neatly fuzzy is the way forward… he’ll look much sexier in the photos!

I totally didn’t even think about this, but when Mr. Cream Puff saw this post, he explained to me that he gets a cleaner shave if he hasn’t shaved in a couple of days, so he will be unshaven at the rehearsal dinner. I was like, “okay…you’ve been thinking about this?” Apparently he has!

My thought was, if your boy grows hair at a super-human rate, won’t he have a 5 o’clock shadow by the time your ceremony rolls around if he shaves that morning? I dislike 5 o’clock shadows much more than I would a bit of scruffiness. Just something to think about, I suppose.

Oh no - I TOTALLY love a lil 5 o’clock shadow and am 100% with you on this one. But what does Mr. Petunia want?
