Picking A Palette

February 13th, 2008 @ 11:11 am by Mrs. Sundae

It was nearly impossible for me to commit to a color scheme. Whenever I would see pictures from a wedding that I loved I would think, “Yes! I’ll do that” only to see another one a few minutes later and completely change my mind. There are just so many ideas and gorgeous color combinations out there! Since we’ll be near a lake I originally thought I would go with a nautical theme, something like this:

Even now, seeing that picture makes me want to change my mind again. But then one day during my obsessive internet surfing for color schemes, I found this:

(Image from Brides)

Green is my favorite color but it never would have occured to me to pair it with black and white. I agonized a lot over whether it was too “harsh” a color scheme for a wedding, but ultimately decided that I love it too much to go in any other direction. The decision was further fueled by these pictures:

We won’t make any final decisions on our linens for a few months, but I think I will go with a slightly more subtle shade of green.

How did you decide on a color scheme? Anyone else opting for black and white?

I love the pairing!

We kind of just fell into ours. I threw my boss a wedding shower and I had to pick colors…I didn’t know theirs, so I opted for colors that I thought looked pretty…dark red and pale green. Turns out I liked them so much, we used them for ours. :)

I’m partial to the first picture since our colors are navy and white. Blue is my favorite color and while I tried to stray from that in the beginning of planning, I came back to blue over and over again.

The green, black and white is gorgeous though!

I have to say I LOVE green too and used more of an apple green for my wedding. We used lots and lots of apples for centerpieces and decor, a green fabric aisle runner, and lots of green for the flowers. I love how it pops in pictures.

My overall aesthetic is modern, urban, edgy, but still classic, and the color scheme I want is purple, raspberry, (my two favorite colors) lighter purples and pinks, and accents of leaf green. My mom thinks I’m nuts; I think it’s a floral palette that would look great on a rooftop in east Brooklyn overlooking the Manhattan skyline!

We’re going b/w/g too! In 11 days!!!
There’s a “brown and green” bio on theknot. I looked at that for some ideas, b/c a lot of times the brown looks like black anyway. Good luck. I thinks it’s a classic color combo. :)

Mine’s just fallen into place - I decided to just go with what works best for each aspect, rather than force everthing into a scheme.

I think I’m going to go with…

bridesmaids dresses = dark green (like the forest green dresses on JCrew) … because they’ll suit my BMs

flowers = pink and dark green … because it’s such a natural combination

I tried matching those with hints of brown, but then I fell in love with the black and white damask as above. It seems to give a crisp freshness to the other colours.

So now we have dark green and pink, with damask accents. The venue is all white, and overlooks a park, so it should work hopefully!

I used green as my main color with some black and white. We also used yellows in the flowers with greens and whites.

It’s hard to explain… there are pics here:

And let me also say that I was just like you! I was influenced by every other picture I saw… it was wedding overload! Sometimes I wonder how I ever made any decisions.

Black and white and green is the new front runner for me. So organic, crisp, and clean.

We are doing black, white, and green. Everywhere we went, when I pulled out my swatches people would oooh! and ahhh! and say how nice and refreshing it was to see a different color than red with the black and white. Made me feel special :) Of course in the end we barely have any green in our wedding stuff. . . oh well!

that green (option 2) combined with a sharp navy blue is a great nautical feel too and would go great w/ ur environment

LOVE it!! Well, I must admit - I love it because it is infact, the scheme I chose to go with! I’m going with a basil-y green and pairing it with high contrast damask and thick French stripe patterns. Absolutely love it. :)

Thanks for the post Miss Sundae. I can’t even begin to tell you how many inquiries I have had about the damask print. I don’t know where to get it, but I do know that another blog reader found the name of the print. It’s called Waverly Essence in Onyx. Hopefully that helps in your search.

BTW- I can’t wait to see pics from your wedding!

We’re doing B&W&G, too (well… as of now)! FI’s favorite color is green, so I wanted to incorporate it somehow. At first, we were going for chocolate brown and pastel green… but decided against it since brown/pastels have been so common these days.

We’ll probably go with a brighter green (lime/apple-ish) compared to pastel because I want it to POP against the B&W. But we’re still over a year out… so we’ll see if I change my mind again.

black white and pink…. all pink, from pastel to fuschia for an august wedding. i like want the tables to be B&W to just be elegant and the flowers to be sunset pinks. the setting is an art gallery with an outside ceremony. i *love* B&W so the pairing to me is supremely elegant and the accent color is distinguishing. enjoy your palette, i think it will be fantastic!!
