Registering.

February 13th, 2008 @ 9:23 am by Mrs. Cream Puff

Ah, registering. I have been dreading this day since… well, probably since about 2 months ago, when I finally realized what’s actually INVOLVED with registering. Getting Mr. Cream Puff to participate would be difficult enough, but I had no idea how hard motivating MYSELF would be. That said, we finally did it! On Saturday, we started with dim-sum, then went to Macy’s, Crate and Barrel and Bed Bath and Beyond. We started at 10am and didn’t finish until almost 10pm. It was a marathon by any standards–I’ve already gotten several comments of “WOW, I can’t believe you managed that!” I will say, it wasn’t easy. There were near fatalities (my shoes were very uncomfortable–I almost killed them, but instead put them in a Crate & Barrel bag and walked around in socks) and definite exhaustion involved. But we’re done!

Here are some pictures, and a few favorite items!

These are our game faces. They are very sexy.

Mr. Cream Puff found this WONDERFUL silver-plated tree trunk. We still aren’t sure what it’s for (and no, we didn’t register for it!)

Registering for our classy china! (more on that in a minute!)

VERY EXCITED ABOUT CUPCAKES. DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS IS? THIS IS A CUPCAKE CARRIER! I MUST HAVE IT!

(Wow, I just noticed that this picture is taken from a very strange angle, in which I look very short and have sticks for legs. Trust me, it’s just the picture. Well, at least the sticks-for-legs part is.)

We didn’t expect to register for china at all, but then Julie (our wonderful consultant at Macy’s) told us all about how sturdy nice china can be. She recommended that we get china instead of stoneware and use it every day. I was a bit skeptical at first, especially considering what an absolute careless klutz I tend to be, but was totally won over when she introduced us to this:

This gorgeous pattern (Effervescent) is part of a new collection by Lenox that is chip-free guaranteed. If your china EVER chips, they will completely replace it. If it ever breaks, they’ll replace it for half-off. Pretty good, I say, especially for a klutz like me. We got the pattern above, but it comes in several patterns, some on the more funky side.

And speaking of funky… we wanted a timeless pattern for our china, but we both fell in love with this (especially the cup and saucer! How cute are they?!):

These are designed by Kate Spade and are TO DIE FOR. So we registered for six place settings (half of what we registered for in the Effervescent pattern). We figured we could use them whenever we have friends over for dinner, and we’d feel super special and fun.

Otherwise, we registered for the usual stuff (although I am very excited about the “usual stuff,” specifically the red KitchenAid mixer!!). Mr. Cream Puff and I have been living in sin for two years now, so we didn’t need too much. I’m so glad we’re done, and now I’m kind of excited!

Oh, you’re hardcore to go register for 12 hours in one day and at 3 places! Very ambitious! :)

Love the pictures! Especially the game faces! Both china pieces very beautiful, and the glee in your face over the cupcake carrier is priceless.

I’m so impressed that you guys went to 3 places in one day– that is hardcore!

And I also loved that Kate Spade china— I really went back and forth about it because it’s so gorgeous!

Gorgeous china pattern! And it’s very cool that the Lenox stuff is supposed to be chip-free, I would need that too. I’d like to third the comment that you are very hardcore :)

I registered for that Kate Spade pattern also! I have it in creme and turquoise, and I love it. It’s earthenware, though, so it’s prone to chipping. And my red Kitchenaid mixer just arrived yesterday - you and I have similar taste!

My FI hogged the scanner the entire time while registering. All I got to do was add things online after we got sick of being in the store. I might go back this weekend and add some things….just so I can scan!!

Miss Cream Puff!
I got the red kitchenaid mixer, AND the kate spade plates (in turquoise) too! We are registry twins :)

I am in awe. We are breaking our registration project out over four weekends, because I just don’t think we’ll be speaking to each other at the end of the day otherwise. What great information about the Lenox - I will have to check that out!! (We were thinking about fiestaware, but I’m sure they don’t have any kind of guarantee, and FI wants to redo the kitchen floor in tile, which just about guarantees breakage.)

Love the china-for-everyday idea! It’s usually so much prettier than stoneware…. (And well done on the marathon day. We barely made it an hour and were like, “ah, we’ll follow up on the Internet”…!)

I registered at C&B this weekend too! And died over the cupcake carrier! I am most excited about the Kitchenaid mixer… i hope someone is generous enough to give it to us. Y’all have good taste in housewares ;)

I really like those china patterns! I’m usually pro-timeless but I’d make an exception to those.

We didn’t register for china or silverware, and I basically added stuff myself for a few hours at Macy’s one day. I did the same at Crate & Barrel with Mark but he got bored AFTER 15 MINUTES so I aborted that plan and did the rest of our registering at home on a computer. (I also did Pier 1 but that was a waste of time - no one got us anything from there.)

Wow, I’m so excited that there are more than a few of you who have my same taste!! That’s awesome!

Michelle–you definitely have to go back and scan some things. It was fun!

Katya–I JUST figured out who you are. Now I have to go back and re-read the comments on my other posts. hahahah!
