Rain Rain Go Away…

February 14th, 2008 @ 1:39 pm by Mrs. Hydrangea

Saturday we are taking our engagement pictures and I’m REALLY excited. I have a hair appointment, makeup appointment and a couple of super cute outfits (one of which is inspired by our own Miss Tulip). So, what, do you ask, is the problem?

THIS:

In case you can’t see it right, Saturday is 42 degrees (cold by TX standards) and RAIN/THUNDER! Last weekend we were originally supposed to have the pictures, but because another couple really needed them done, we rescheduled our time. Last weekend was sunny and 75. Let’s hope there is a weather miracle and we won’t have to reschedule!

Has anyone else had to reschedule their photos due to the weather?

We had to reschedule because of rain and on the second time out there, it was windy like you wouldn’t believe!

Do you have to reschedule if it rains? You could just get a cute umbrella and snuggle up under it. Or sit in the window at a cute restaurant or coffee shop and have photos taken through the glass - water will just add a different element to your photos. And in the end you could just go all out and get soaked together… the possibilities are endless if your photographer’s up for it! I think it could be really romantic and unique…

We took our pictures on a super HOT day - we ended up going into the river near where we were taking pics to cool down, and got some great pics. I say - work with what you get, the pics might turn out even better!!

We had to reschedule our beach photo shoot due to ridiculous levels of wind on the day we were supposed to take them. It was irritating at the time, but the rescheduled photos came out so incredibly that it was totally worth it. If you do have to reschedule, don’t sweat it!

Rainy day pics can be really beautiful because the light is softer. It makes skin tones look amazingly dewy. Plus how cool would an engagement picture be with lighting in the background.

We had to reschedule our e-pics twice! The 1st time was because of the weather and the 2nd time was because our photographer had a very bad case of poison ivy :( I was all dressed, hair done, nails everything. They had to cancel 30 minutes before. I was pretty disappointed. It really worked out in the end though. 3rd time was a charm. The weather was gorgeous the 3rd time around and they came out great! It will all work out no matter what happens. Good luck! Just remember these pictures you will have forever so don’t just try to squeeze them in because you want to get them done. It is worth holding off and waiting for a better day, even if it is a little disappointing. Believe me.

We had to reschedule or E-pics because of rain, but it turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Before we were able to reschedule, we decided to drop our photographer and go with someone new and improved! Now I cant wait to take pictures that I will actually love on the 23rd!

I agree that some rainy pics look fantastic! Try not to worry about it too much. Your photographer is a professional and will work with what is given. Good luck and have fun!

It was hot and humid and raining and overall hazy and ugly on the day of our engagement pictures. I was pissed — we wanted fall themed pictures and had our sweaters out, and then it was 88 degrees (in Philadelphia, in OCTOBER) and there was this nasty haze over the whole city and then it started to rain. We couldn’t reschedule, because our photographer was booked straight through mid-February unless we did them on a weekday, and in our fields taking off a weekday is NOT an option under any circumstance whatsoever. If we lived in Philly we could sneak out for an “extended lunch break”, but it’s a good 3-3.5 hour drive up for us, so we would have had to take off an entire day.
Since we had already booked the photographer and signed the contract, we would have lost out on our $400 if we didn’t do it… so we just went ahead and took the pictures. I kind of hate them, but oh well. I can’t afford to hire a second photographer and do them again.

We wound up doing ours in-studio, because I couldn’t change my hair appointment/my day off from work I had to take (my husband has different days off than me since he’s a chef)/etc…and it rained that day. The photographer was willing to reschedule, but I couldn’t afford to take another day off, so we just went with it.

I really wish I would have thought about going to a bar or a fave tavern with a pool table and taking cute shots indoors at places like that instead. I don’t like our engagement photos much because of the stiff feel of the studio. (And I think my husband would have been much more comfy with the session had we done what we thought about doing later…) We plan on doing an anniversary shoot this next fall at the bars/taverns we have in mind. We can’t wait!

I will do my anti-rain dance for you! (And I am pretty good at it, just ask Mrs. Gummibear.)

must reiterate that cloudy/rainy days truly do make for great pictures. the sky acts as a giant softbox and makes everything look soft and lovely :) so unless you’re in danger of being struck down by lightning, I’d say do not reschedule!!!!

I’m thinking of a really cute raincoat with a nice umbrella… it could make for some nice pictures!

But - i probably would reschedule too… my hair becomes a frizzball in the rain.
