If The Shoe Fits…

February 15th, 2008 @ 12:44 pm by Mrs. Sundae

My wedding shoe dilemma is two fold - Mr. Sundae is only a few inches taller than me and we’re having the ceremony outdoors. I really didn’t want to wear flats because (I am aware this might sound strange) I feel like I walk a little different in heels, even if they are small ones. But almost all of the low heeled shoes I found were kitten heels, which means I will most definitely be sinking in the grass when attempting to walk down the aisle. I tested a few out:

(Image from Zappos)

I thought the green would be different and that some shoe clips could dress them up, but when they arrived the green was more of a sea foam color and the heels were really narrow. There would certainly have been sinkage. So then I spent days lusting over these:(Image from Zappos)

But again, the kitten heel wouldn’t stand up to the grass and they’re more than I really wanted to spend. When I found these Kate Spade shoes I almost decided that they were so pretty I didn’t care if I sank into the grass and fell on my face, but logic won out:

Then I found the solution…Something Bleu shoes from My Glass Slipper:

The heel is only 1 1/2 inches and it’s thick, which I am happy to say does prevent sinking. I lusted over Mrs. Onion’s Cynthia Rowley shoes but the heel would have been too high for my purposes. So these are the perfect alternative! They even have a blue sole which will probably serve as my only “something blue.”

Did you have any specific criteria for your shoes? If so, did you ultimately find what you were looking for?

I have looking desperately for shoes that would work for our outdoor ceremony and reception as well, but I wanted something with a higher heel. I think I finally found a winner with these:

We’ll have to see what they look like with the dress. I’m crossing my fingers that they’ll be waiting by the door at home for me today.

I’m in the same boat as you. My issue too, is that I’m wide footed. So on some of these sites, I can’t tell what the “true” size is to pick. I know what my true size is, but always have to opt for a size that is 3 sizes larger. Frustrating!

Miss Sundae, are you saying that the shoes you finally decided on have a blue sole? Or was that Mrs. Onion’s shoes?

Thanks for the link to this site! I’ve never heard of them, before!

I had the same. exact. dilema.

- feel better in a heel
- almost the same height as husband
- wedding on the grass, so no kitten heel

congrats on a great find!

Did you think at all about doing a small wedge or shorter espadrille? They won’t sink b/c there is no actual heel, and you can find shorter, really cute ones! Just an idea, and I think perfect for outdoors :-) here’ s a cute one and nice for summertime :http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/35657256/c/728.html

Same problem here! I don’t have my dress yet, so I haven’t spent a lot of time looking at shoes, but so far I haven’t found anything I really like. I would, actually, do a flat, but I can’t even find pretty flats.

ncmountainbride - great find! Those wedges are really cute.

MissMandy - my shoes do have a blue sole and I think that Mrs. Onion’s did too, but I am not sure.

I know that the price tag is a little much, but I looked so long that when I finally found something I liked I justified it. They’re dyeable, so I am promising myself that I will dye them black and wear them again. I realize that doesn’t always happen but I am going to try!

I didn’t have a dilemma with height as my husband is 6 foot something. But I had the grass dilemma and since it had rained buckets the day before it was a bit soft. I originally thought a wedge would be a good idea but all the ones I found were too casual looking and I wanted a fun color shoe instead of ivory. I found the perfect heel at Nine West that matched my bridesmaids dresses perfectly. They were probably 3 inches high and yes I sunk a bit while walking but learned to walk on my toes for the day. It wasn’t bad and I love them!

CUTE!

i will have the same dilemna….once i find a dress……one thing at a time, lol….

i’ll have an indoor ceremony, so sinkage wont be an issue, so i will probably end up with a blinged out kitten heel. or either a rich fall color in microseude………

I am going to get Clean Heels to wear in the grass, then remove them at the reception.

NikkoleC - that is the greatest idea ever! I had no idea those even existed. I am absolutely going to get some for the ceremony just to be safe. Thank you for sharing!

Those shoes are to die for - LOVE them!

I haven’t found my shoes yet (but I have time). I want silver, but my dilemma is that I want shoes that look pretty in pictures - which in my mind has a little heel - but I haaaaate heels. I’m totally a flats girl and my fiance isn’t much taller than me, so flats are fine… but I think they’ll look dumpy in pictures. I know I’m going to end up with ceremony shoes and reception shoes.

I need heels! My fiance is almost a foot taller, and I am just a heel girl anyway. The ceremony is outdoors, but not standing on grass. My perfect shoes need to be ivory, and I am hoping they can have some lace accents. I LOVE some of Stuart Weitzman’s shoes, but not the price. Anyone find an ivory, chantilly lace heel that isn’t over $200?
