Fun With Fabric

February 19th, 2008 @ 3:54 pm by Mrs. Sundae

I promise that someday I will stop talking about fabric, but today is not that day! Once I made the decision to keep the damask fabric, I knew that I wanted to incorporate parts of it into more than just the runners, but I really wanted just a portion of the pattern. A “single damask,” if you will. So I put a piece of fabric on our scanner to see what would happen. Then I put the image into Illustrator and used the live trace feature, and after a little tweaking came up with this:

I am thinking this would be a great way to use the color scheme and pattern throughout the wedding in subtle ways. Maybe on the escort cards:

Or even on the menu cards (which, admittedly, might be too much because the runners are also going to be on the table):

(All images hastily created by me for the purposes of illustration). I do like the idea of making it into a watermark, which might work better for the programs instead of the menu cards. What do you think? Did you use a pattern or design throughout your entire wedding?

I swear we have the same mind. I just did all the stationary for our wedding and it is similar!

Miss Sundae - If you want some more inspiration, my photographer just got married and her wedding had a black, pink and white damansk theme. Her pics are on Jessica Claire’s website as well. You kind of have to scroll around but you can see she used these cool damansk lamps. http://www.lauranovak.net/

Very nice! I loooove damask. I think it would make a nice watermark on the programs and such.

What if you did the damask pattern over the background of the entire escort card and then put the names on top of it? That might be cool.

I guess we used birds, butterflies, and trees a lot throughout our wedding stuff. There was this one stamp of two birds flying side by side that I got from the Paper Sources and I put that all over the place.

Here it is, just in case anyone is looking for a bird stamp?

Those look great! (And thanks for giving me some ideas- we have a single damask watermark on our invitations and website, and have been trying to figure out where else to use it. Escort cards is brilliant!)

That is exactly what I did for a friends wedding. I created a damask image in illustrator that she liked and then we carried it as a theme throughout all her paper items! Here colors were black, white and vintage rose! It came out really well!

I LOVE damask! I really thought about it but it just conflicted with other elements in our wedding. But I loved it soo much I let my BMs know I really wanted it to be a part of my shower and they did a great job incorporating it in!

I said it before and I’ll say it again; your wedding theme/colors makes me want to change my own! I love it! My FI and I met at the KY Derby, so we are pulling some elements of the Derby into our theme. We are serving mint juleps at the cocktail hour (with a sign explaning the choice), naming our tables after horses that ran that year (2004) (again with a sign) and hiring a bluegrass band for the cocktail hour, I am going to design/have made a suite which includes the signs, escort cards, table numbers, invites and programs. This way we will have a theme, but it will be subtle. I am also using gerberas everywhere-in the fountain, on the cake, on the tables, in the bouquets, on our arch, etc. and pink and brown will run throughout.

I love the damask. And you will LOVE Laura Novak’s wedding if you haven’t already checked it out (per Suji’s suggestion.) I am taking a letterpress class and we have to create a logo of our own for tomorrow. You’ve inspired me!

I love that pattern and the samples you put up.
Do you plan on putting the menus on the plate? If so I think the watermark would be great and maybe put colored cardstock behind the white printed menu. Um does that make sense :)
So pretty.

Love that look! I’ve been going back and forth (and back and forth) on colors, but I think I’ve decided on black & white & green. I thought this was clever and original ’til I started paying attention here and realized that lots of people are using those colors…not that it matters, cause it’s the first combination that I’ve liked for 24 hours straight so I think I’m gonna go with it. :-)

Anyway, Miss Sundae, my wedding is after yours and I’d be interested in buying your table runners, if you’re selling. Let me know!

I love your ideas!! I am getting married in June and my colors are black and white. I am going to make table runners and I am debating on the damask print..I just need to find the right fabric. Would you mind sharing your watermark so I can use it for our dinner invites???
I have been looking for fabric. I think I need more of a black background though, because my cloths are white. What do you think? What flowers are you doing. I am still debating! Thanks for your help!!!
