This hackjob of a photoshopped image started with the model on
the Alfred Angelo website, here. The dress is style 6129SN.
Growing up, I never fantasized about my wedding. I never thought about color schemes, what my dress would look like, or even who the groom would be. Instead, I pictured my bridal party, of all things. I organized my friends that way–which of my friends would be my bridesmaids, and who would be my Maid of Honor. I never thought about any other part of the wedding.
In my mind, I always fantasized that, by the time I got married, I would have a core group of girlfriends like the group of women on Sex and the City (and I know I’m not alone here–I’m convinced that’s part of the reason that show was so popular. Because we all want those girlfriends). The truth is that my closest friends are spread out all over the country, and most of them don’t know each other. This means that most of the girly stuff I always imagined–you know, going dress shopping together, bonding over stuffing envelopes–just isn’t going to happen.
For awhile, Mr. Cream Puff and I considered not having a bridal party at all. But you know what? I’m realizing that it doesn’t really matter that they’re spread out all over the place, or that they don’t really know each other. Chances are, I wouldn’t have asked anyone for help with the mundane details anyway. I realized that I would be lonely if I didn’t have my girlfriends standing up there with me. Yes, the wedding is about Mr. Cream Puff and I… but it’s also about having a fun celebration. And I want my friends to be an important part of that. And honestly, the girly “getting ready” time is something I’ve been looking forward to my entire life.

But I was looking for something less pastel-y. I went to a bridal shop and looked through their swatch books. It’s harder to find five or six colors that look good together than you might think! By far the best color selection was Alfred Angelo. I chose seven colors that looked good together (kiwi, cobalt, jade, sunshine, fuschia, cherry and persimmon), and then pointed my friends to the Alfred Angelo website. I picked out a few dresses that I liked, but told them that they could choose any dresses they liked, as long as they were all in different colors. As it turned out, they all agreed on ONE dress (pictured above) and each liked a different color! The dress itself is super cute, not too expensive (if you buy online, it’s about $100) and everyone is happy with their color choice. They also decided that they should all wear the same color of shoes–so they chose “silver and strappy.”
I was a little concerned that the whole dress-finding thing might be a problem. Did any of your bridesmaids end up in a tiff over these decisions? Did any of you have trouble picking your bridal party? Did anyone choose not to have a bridal party?
If I could do it all over again, I would have done this. Its so bold and beautiful! I cant wait to see what your girls look like!
