(Signature) Cocktails, Anyone?

February 19th, 2008 @ 5:59 pm by Miss Cupcake

I love the idea of having a signature cocktail served to guests at our cocktail hour. It would be a nice way to incorporate another personalized element while adding a splash of color. Not just any color, mind you, but a color that fits into our scheme of teal and chartreuse. And really, any excuse to create more work for myself by making cute little drink flags is what I’m all about.

With a simple Google search I came upon Drinkalizer.com, where you can search for cocktails by category, spirit or — you guessed it — color! There are certainly some, ahem, interesting (read: gross-sounding) concoctions out there, but many sound yummy and look so pretty!

Since liquor is included with our venue, any signature cocktail that we may choose has to be comprised of basic bar ingredients (unless we want to pay more, which I really don’t think is necessary). I have come up with a few that might work, but if you’re providing your own liquor for your venue, you have the pick of the litter!

What about you? Are you having a signature cocktail? Tell us about it!

Definitely! My brother went to bartending school (part-time work before he went to law school) so I’m going to ask him to design a signature blue cocktail for the wedding and I’m going to call it the “weddingtini” and put a sign on the bar saying who it was designed by and stuff. I can’t wait! I’ll be drinking them all night, hehe.

That’s so funny, I just found that same website today in my search for signature cocktails. I downloaded the drink flags and changed them to match my color scheme, and even downloaded the matching signature cocktail menu they had on their website too, so much fun! We’re going to do a signature cocktail too… something blue to match our turquoise color, not sure what it’s going to be just yet but something blue & fruity!

Didn’t Mrs. Strawberry blog about this when she was Miss.? Good that new Bees get to see it too.

Where is Mrs. Strawberry these days? I hope she’s doing well, I so enjoyed her posts.

Boooo Gabriela Delworth! Sell your spam somewhere else!!

I want a signature cocktail, too… but since my family and friends are lushes, I want them to be available during the CEREMONY, not just the cocktail hour. The venue/catering company we’re looking at is charing $14/person for SIX HOURS of well open bar, so I want to take advantage of each and every second. Wouldn’t it be nice to choose between water, lemonade, or a lychee martini to enjoy during our 15 minute ceremony?

I LOVE the idea of signature cocktails! My main wedding color is green and I’m having a mint signature cocktail and calling it “mint to be”! Other ideas…
Pink martini could be called: Blushing Bride
Blue Martini could be called: Something Blue

I know you all have probably heard these ideas…but…I just thought I’d throw it out there! Any other ideas ladies? Please share!

OK, I give up–who is Gabriela Delworth, and/or what’s she got to do with it?

I really like the idea of a signature cocktail (or maybe a pair of them), but I think I’m more focused on taste than color (though that’d be nice). I figure if I’m directing what folks can drink, I better be offering something tasty!

Hey there! Our wedding colors were brown and a light blue so our signature drinks were named after the Bride and Groom and we had a Chocolate martini and a blue curaco margarita :)

Something Old
Shirley Temple
Ginger Ale & a dash of grenadine

Something New
Wedded Bliss
White Peach Puree & Champagne

Something Borrowed
Pacific Breeze
Malibu, Cranberry Juice & Pineapple Juice

Something Red, White & Blue
Independence Martini
Pomegranate Grenadine, Vodka & Blueberry

– we’re going to the West coast/hawaii for our honeymoon, hence the “pacific breeze” name, and we’re getting married near the 4th hence the “red white & blue.” If you want just “Something Blue” then I’d recommend a “Blue Hawaiian”

I’ll share our signature drink recipe because if you mix it just right, you’ll get a beautiful chartruese color that may fit into your scheme. And, let me tell you, these drinks were DE-LISH! Even my husband’s aunt who is a nun was drinking them (though she didn’t know they were alcoholic.) I’m not sure of the real name for them, but we named it “Soylent Green” after the cheeseball Charlton Heston movie. Just mix equal parts Hipnotic (HPNOTIQ, or however they spell it) with pineapple juice. No ice needed, just a pretty glass.
Our drink signs read “Try our signature drink, Soylent Green, 49% HPNOTIQ, 50% pineapple juice, 1% people” since “SOYLENT GREEN IS PEOOOOPLEEEE!!”

We’re having a summer wedding and my color is fuschia, so we’re having “Dark and Stormies” (a fave of the FI and I) as well as Watermelon Martini’s, as my color is fuschia. So excited about them!

I haven’t thought of the color of my drink yet, let alone what signature drink to serve. However, I’m having a ready-made signature drink station when cocktail hour begins. That way, folks have a choice: ready-made drink or standing in line for the bar.

We’re having a short 30 min. cocktail interlude in a garden before the reception tent opens for catering stations and band, etc. Instead of worrying about offering each guest whatever they want from the bar while servers pass hors d’oeuvres (there will be open bar for reception), we decided that the servers would bring out trays of two drink choices for the cocktail half hour–one alcoholic, one not.

We didn’t worry about matching colors, just mood. So, a kir (white wine and creme de cassis) in a champagne flute garnished with a red grape on the rim and mint lemonade are our choices. Not only is it more fun than the typical toast, it also is cheaper than even cava/non-champagne bubbly!

Have you had any luck finding containers for the signature drinks like the ones in the picture?
