Airfare Thee Well!

February 20th, 2008 @ 2:44 pm by Mrs. Lovebug

See this lovely (Flickr-snatched) photo of Ireland? See those rainbows? If you could capture, bottle, distill, and serve them to me as a cordial, I don’t think I could get any higher…

We just booked our first class airfare to London!!! (For the record, this is the first time in my life I’ve broken my “one exclamation mark is enough” rule. Forgive me, fellow punctuation sticklers. I believe the excessive emphasis is merited.)

Um, yeah. First-freakin’-class, courtesy of Mr. Lovebug Senior’s frequent flyer miles. HOW INSANE IS THAT?! Not coach. Not business. Six-foot, fully-flat sleeper seated, swiveling, individual laptop power cord-having, private TV-watching, complimentary Bose noise-cancelling headphone-wearing, personal satellite phone-dialing, champagne-swillin’ while we’re chillin’, separate security line-walking FIRST CLASS BABY!

We had our hearts set on flying Virgin or British Airways, but when the option to use American miles for the upgrade came up, we were all over that like foam on a Guinness. We booked our roundtrip airfare from Tucson to Chicago to London/Heathrow, leaving two days after the wedding and returning May 7th. Giving us a full two weeks, after travel time, in Ireland and London!

OMG. I think I might need to wear Depends for a few days. Seriously.

So jealous. This is like our dream honeymoon that we couldn’t afford so it simultaneously kills me and thrills me every time you post about it. I know we’ll be very happy with our week in Biloxi and New Orleans, especially since we’re crazy music freaks and we get to see a lot of music at our very first JazzFest, but London and Ireland, man oh man. And first class? NICE!!! (This English major is with you on the punctuation, although I’m sure I’ve broken that rule before now.) Congratulations on booking your flight!

So jealous, what a HUGE score! We didn’t book first class (even worse, we have a layover) because we aren’t frequent fliers, nor do we have $5K that we’ve been dying to burn through, so I’m gonna live vicariously thorough you! Let us know how the other half lives…detailed pics, please :)

Please keep us updated on this trip! I can’t wait to hear all the details! We were going to do this for our honeymoon too. But we are now doing a mini moon in Napa and then doing London in Dec! I’m going to take notes! HA!
So excited for you!

Oh, while you’re in London, I’d highly recommend eating at Belgo and Busaba Ethai. Both are excellent restaurants with reasonable prices. oooh.. I miss London so much!

No matter the airline, it’s ALWAYS good in First Class! (!!!!!!!!!!) Alas, I’ve only been up there through bumping, bitching or someone else’s bucks and never on an overseas trip. (!!!!!!!!!!SO JEALOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) I’d probably end up with mad bed head from passing out champagne-tipsy in those sleeper seats. ;)

BTW, the colors in that photo are just amazing. It almost doesn’t look real– like the Teletubbies are going to come scampering over the hill looking for toast.

(My punctuation mantra is strict rule-following for business/formal writing and anything goes on the interwebs. Though I usually do not include several dozen !!!!!!!’s in a single post. ;) )

I felt the same way when I booked our first class honeymoon tickets from NY to Hawaii. Absolutely cannot wait for our flatbed seats. Have a great time.

I am green with envy. Having done a fair number of cross Atlantic flights myself (average about 17hours), any upgrade is a god send and first class remains the elusive dream! :-)

Enjoy!

enjoy! Mr Corn and I did the same using his US Air miles on Lufthanza to get to Italy and back. The funniest part of the trip was when we landed in Munich for our connections. They met us ON THE TARMAC as we exited the plane, with a black Mercedes with tinted windows…we totally thought we were in trouble for something

Adopt me.

(or at least have Mr. Lovebug give up his occupation and hand it over to me.)

Hee!

Congrats! I know you’ll have a blast.

Congrats on the upgrade! I must say though, once you’ve flown first/biz to Europe (or on any other 6+ hour flight), you’ll be forever spoiled!

Ireland is fantastic! We spent the holidays there last year. You have never seen so many fabulous shades of green; you will have a wonderful time. Congratulations

Seriously, I would have a hard time deciding which to be more excited about: the First-Class flights or the trip itself.

As for more than one exclamation point–my secondary rule (the primary rule being use only one exclamation point, as you say) is to only use odd numbers of exclamation points. (sorry, it makes my heart flutter a little to see someone casually mentioning grammar rules!) So you’re still good!!!

I spent over a month in Ireland a few years back if you want any tips!
