What’s Better Than Cake On A Stick?

February 21st, 2008 @ 11:08 am by Mrs. Toucan

After being featured on How About Orange and Hostess with the Mostess for her SUPER UBER CUTE cupcake pops, I couldn’t help but think how cute these would be for wedding favors!

What's Better Than Cake On A Stick? : wedding diy favors 2234161Super Uber cute cupcake pops from Bakerella

After surfing Bakerella for a bit, I found a simpler version of the cake pop that I thought I’d try my hand at.

What's Better Than Cake On A Stick? : wedding diy favors 2224040YUM-O! (from Bakerella)

I tweaked the recipe a bit, and used Funfetti cake mix (who doesn’t like a party in every bite?) and frosting, instead of the Chocolate mix and cream cheese frosting. While my version (in my opinion) tasted great, they didn’t quite turn out as cute as the pops above:

My cake pops turned out a little flat topped because I made the cake ball too big - therefore it was to heavy for the pop to dry upright! The recipe was pretty simple (and cheap!), so I’m thinking that these might make good additions to my out-of-town bags! Until then, I’ll probably experiment with flavors and try to make the pops a little more spherical…

What flavor(s) should I try next? What’s your favorite cake flavor?

very cute I saw those on her website too. great idea. question - what is the frosting made out of again? I re-read it but didn’t understand if you used cream cheese icing or chocolate or a mix. thanks.

Red Velvet cake… or carrot cake with cream cheese, mmmm… ok now i’m hungry.

Fun idea. I would be sure to use some kind of hard-setting frosting if you are going to use them in OOT bags, so they don’t get messed up when being wrapped.

These would make a cute twist on the cupcake wedding cake– tiers of little cake pops with a small cutting cake on top!

OMG, I LOVE that idea!

Any flavor would be fantastico. Funfetti is a good choice, but seriously, how could you go wrong with cake on a stick? (Even if they were too heavy and dried witha flat spot on top…still, it’s CAKE on a STICK! :D)

Your guests are sooooo lucky…

Heather, I used Funfetti frosting, as well - it’s my favorite since it has all the colorful choc. chips! (also, I think we have the same taste in cake! I wanted to buy red velvet, but there was none at the store. I also bought carrot cake and cream cheese frosting, but I ran out of chocolate to dip it in!)

Beanchar, actually the frosting is mixed with the cake, and then dipped in chocolate (sorry I forgot to mention that!), so they wouldn’t be messed up when wrapped! :) Yeah… basically it’s cake (yum!), frosting (yum!), AND chocolate (yum!) - super sweet and delish! :D

We had truffle pops at my engagement party and they were a huge hit! And with chocolate, you have the added bonus of a little extra hold. Good luck!

This may be a silly question: but how did you get the cake into such nice round balls? Scoop? Melon baller?

Manda, they are not the plastic ones. They are the paper (?) ones - I just picked them up from the candy aisle along with the blue chocolate melts at Joann.

Vanna, because you mix the crumbled cake with the frosting, you get this dough-y mixture. You can mold it into a ball pretty easily with your hands.

I made something similar for Halloween last year. I used basically the same mix but put a small dab of jam in the middle of the cake ball. Then I made little skull shapes, dipped in white chocolate and used some black frosting piped on for eyes, teeth etc. Best cake treats ever! I never thought of making cake-pops or mini cupcake-pops and now Im going to have to…
