I’m stoked to marry my best friend and to throw what I hope will be the most fun and colourful party of our lives.
About Mrs. Hummingbird

It’s funny. When we first started planning the wedding, I worked out a budget which allotted some transportation money that I imagined would go towards renting something like this:

A Little Transportation Detour... : wedding toronto transportation Z133110 vintagecar
The ever-glamorous vintage car.

However the more time passed and the more I thought about it logically, especially with the location change from city to country, the more I realized it would be better to rent something like this:

A Little Transportation Detour... : wedding toronto transportation Z133108 van
The ever-glamorous panel van.

Because we’re throwing the wedding ourselves at a family property, we’re also supplying our own liquor. Keeping our budget in mind, this is good because it saves us money and allows us to have an open bar, but we also wanted to be super careful that, while people had a nice time, they did not overindulge and then get behind the wheel.

So with the safety of our guests in mind, we are currently trying to make arrangements to have a shuttle go to and from the local hotel our guests will be staying at (we’re getting married at a fairly remote spot out in the country so most people will be hoteling it) so that people can go car free, hang around a bit later and enjoy a few drinks.

Would it have been cool to ride in a vintage car? Sure. But is it cool to get to spend a little more time with our out of town guests and for them to get home safely? Definitely, because five extra minutes with my best friend from out west is worth more to me than a fifteen minute ride in a car by myself.

What can I say? Plans were made to be changed, and as far as deviations from original plans go, I think this is a pretty good one. smiley1095

What about you, ladies? How are your plans different now that you’re farther along in your wedding prep? What have you changed/decided you don’t need?

Ah my glamourous twin from up North! We went from dreams of zipping off alone in a vintage Alfa Romeo sports car to riding with the whole group in a mini-motorcoach painted a very shiny shade of Miami Dolphins teal.

In the end, comfort and togetherness was so much better than the brief thrill of pretending to be Cary Grant and Grace Kelly could ever have been. Not to mention being able to get tipsy without worry! ;)

I started a file after the wedding called “What I thought vs. What I got” where I recalled what our initial vision was and then what it ended up being.

I was going to have a picnic reception complete with cute baskets for everyone, a live bluegrass band, be barefoot and get married on a wooded hillside. Instead we had BBQ and a potluck, a violin and guitar duo, shoes, and were married in a barn.

Hey,
I just had a thought. What about allowing some guests to bring tents to the event? That way, even if some don’t make it back to the hotel, at least they have the fun of “roughing it” for the night. It might also cut down on hotels if people are only staying in one that night.

We too were all over the vintage car (a Rolls anyone?) until we realized the small college town where we were to be married didn’t offer such luxuries and the university charter buses were practically free. So now we’re riding with our entire wedding party in an enormous motor coach emblazoned with our alma mater’s mascot. I couldn’t be happier :) And well within the budget!

we just assumed we would just get a limo. nothing special. but as the wedding is only 5 weeks away (eek~!)..we decided we didn’t need a limo (or the extra expense). because we’re in nyc and none of us have cars, one of my bm’s will be driving us in her lovely white rental (that she has for work)~!

I have to say we did both.. listen to this.. The ceremony was at our location.. We hired the shuttle for the guys from the hotel.. my mom drove me to the reception hall. I got ready there.. WE had a vintage car come free of charge ( MODEL A 1930s ) from a local car club member out on long Island just to serve as a prop for our photos.. It worked amazingly .. Later that night we just went home in the shuttle.. Savings almost $2k
Here are some pics :
