My Beeeeeautifuuuuul Ring

February 22nd, 2008 @ 2:10 pm by Mrs. Tulip

Mr. T’s brother works in quite a wonderful place. Namely, Tiffany & Co!

Unfortunately, we have not taken full advantage of this special bounty. We looked at Tiffany rings at engagement time, but to save $$$ we ended up having a ring made from scratch. And, though the design is a classic that’s been around since the 1930s, we (ahem) basically copied something we saw in Bvlgari….

When it came time to look for wedding rings, we hit Tiffany’s first, but there was nothing that looked quite right with the engagement ring. So, for old time’s sake, we went next door to Bvlgari. Now, remember I’m the Budget Bee: I do all my shopping on eBay or at thrift stores, and high-end stores terrify me! But we discovered on these trips that the people in the stores are so nice! Not only did the Bvlgari woman remember us from our engagement-shopping trip, but another woman, who used to work with BILT at Tiffany’s, swooped upon us and offered the most personal of service.

And we actually found my ring! We both loved the simple-but-different style. And the bamboo effect fits well with our vaguely-Asian wedding theme. Better yet, I read in the latest issue of Bridal Guide that, according to “ancient Chinese legend,” bamboo brings couples “happiness, prosperity, and good health.” We’ll certainly take as much of those as we can get.

(Sorry, these aren’t the greatest photos….)

Perhaps because we copied a Bvlgari design to begin with, the band fits perfectly with the engagement ring. The diamonds on the wedding band line up perfectly with the center and sides of my engagement ring. And, despite how it looks in the photo, there’s really no gap. The engagement ring is platinum and the wedding ring white gold, but I’m not particularly worried that they’ll age differently. To me, an aesthetic fit is SO much more important.

Now, if only we could find something similar for Mr. T…. Any suggestions on where to look?

They look great. I was cautioned that mixing platinum and white gold can cause the metals to basically rub each other the wrong way (corrode each other), so you may want to research this to be sure you know how to care for them to prevent that from happening.
