Growing up, I never really had pets.
Well okay, that is not completely true. The day before my seventh birthday, my parents brought me to the pet store and I picked out two goldfish which I named Alice and Abigail. Unfortunately, as is often the case with pet store goldfish, they both seemed to have contracted some sort of deadly fishy disease which caused them both to float to the top of their bowl within a month of purchase.
Heartbroken after two “burials at sea,” I wasn’t really interested in getting another animal companion and with family allergies, it seemed best if I remained pet free.
However, once I moved out on my own to my very own bachelor apartment in TO, it felt a bit weird being all by myself all the time, so when my dad’s friend’s cat had kittens and asked if I would like one, I jumped at the chance.
Getting a cat for the first time at 22 was a little bit strange and I wasn’t sure what to expect, but when I was handed Bettie for the first time, I knew she was mine.

Mr. Hummingbird grew up with a dog (R.I.P. Pep), so he was very much raised as a “dog person.” Though we weren’t living together at the time I got Bettie, he came with me to pick her up and was incredibly smitten with her too, wrapping his jacket around her carrier to keep her warm in the cold air of December and cuddling with her when we got her home to my place.

I know it’ll probably make me sound like the crazy cat lady saying this, but in the three and a half years that I’ve had Beebs, she’s really become a part of my family. She’s kept me company when Mr. Hums went away on business. She’s cheered me up when I have had a bad day. She’s snuggled into my lap when I’ve been sick. She’s been there through a lot and I kind of wanted her, in some small way at least, to be a part of our big day. However, since she is a cat and isn’t really trainable to do an aisle walk, I had to come up with a different solution, which is why I want to order these:
I know they cost a bit more than regular stamps because they’re custom, but I kind of like the idea of her crazy little face being associated with our wedding somehow since she is part of our family too.

Anyway, I know that lots of ladies around The Hive have pets, so I was curious - what kind of pets do people have? Are any of you doing anything to incorporate your pets into your wedding? Tell me about it!
I have 2 adorable kittens whom I just love to pieces so I know how you feel about yours! The first kitten I found in a parking lot when she was TWO DAYS old, no longer than 5 inches! I had to bottle feed her and everything so we have an extra special bond. After having her for about 2 months, I realized she would severely benefit from having a second kitten around. So, I went and adopted a second kitten and it was the best possible decision I could have ever made. The second kitten is hardly any more work and it gives the first kitten someone to play with while we are away from the house. Have you ever considered getting a second cat?
I don’t know how easy it would be to incorporate a kitten or cat into a wedding, besides having a picture there. Cats really can’t be trained and are generally skiddish around lots of people. If you are going to have pictures around you could always be sure to include a picture of your precious baby. Or, if she has a certain color collar she wears, you could include that color in your bouquet.
Here are my two babies:
