Our Dorky, Squinty, Thank You Cards

February 25th, 2008 @ 3:08 pm by Mrs. Lovebug

Ah, the joy of the first registry purchase. That buoyant balloon of delight…quickly burst by the realization of the need for thank you cards.Since we took the fancy schmancy train to Invitesville via letterpress, we wanted to do something more casual and relaxed for our thank yous. And personalized. Personalized is the name of the game. So in a spin off of a Martha idea, and with our “Sweetest Type of Love” theme as inspiration, we came up with some dorky, squinty picture postcards:

We haven’t decided which dorky squinty version we like better. They both have their dorky squinty charms. All I know is, I am NOT re-doing this particular shoot, dorky squintiness be damned. We have just spent too much time in front of the lens lately, what with the (still unfinished) table number photos and…well, I guess that’s it.

The extremely technical specs for this process include

1. Buying stick-on felt letters and attaching them to t-shirts
2. Squinting like dorks in your backyard for a photographer friend (for maximum squintiness, aim for late afternoon, depending on the directional orientation of your residence)
3. Uploading photos to Flickr, and ordering customizable postcards from Moo (about a buck each)

You’ll know you’re in the right place when you see this handy, option-rich layout:

I like that we’re just kickin’ it in our natural habitat (especially since we have so many out-of-towners to whom our desert is exotic). And I like that a postcard doesn’t have a ton of blank white space to fill up.

We haven’t placed the order yet, so I’ll be sure and let you guys know how they come out. Theory vs. practice and all…

What’s everyone else doing for thank yous? Are you matching the rest of your invitation suite or doing something entirely different?

Such a cute idea for thank you’s. could you private message me and tell me what you did for your table numbers? I would love to do something different and it sounds as if you have.

Thanks!!!

Those are both great! I prefer the second photo, but it is a tough choice. :)

If you havn’t placed the order yet, you may want to use vistaprint.com instead. I printed my save-the-date cards through them and got 100 postcards for free. It’s a constant promotion, and if you add yourself to their email list (i used my spam web account) they’ll send you discount codes a few times a week.

huskerlx: just click back a few of my posts, and you can see our table number plans. Or just search for “Have Typewriter, Will Travel” and “Table Numbers: Advanced Obsession”. :)

Hi Lovebug!
I have a question about your Sweet Charity post, but didnt want to comment on that just in case you didnt get it : )
I went on a hunt this weekend for the wood chips and found a pack at Michaels 20 for $4.00, I was unsure if that is reasonable. Can you let me know where you got the chips and the hole puncher the same size : )
Thanks!
Love the squinty thank yous!

Miss Lb, a little off topic…have you heard the Oscar- winning score from the movie Atonement? The composer used a typewriter as an instrument. Perhaps for dinner music? Just to really drive home your theme!
And once again, cute photos!

If you haven’t ordered your postcard yet…one of my friends used http://www.nextdayflyers.com for her STD. 100 for $19.95 and like $5 for shipping.

I love the body language of the first one…and even though you’re squinting, it’s a cute squint. It’s got personality. :)

Not that you’re asking for our opinion, but I’d like to echo Angel’s comment. To me, Mr. LB looks pretty much the same in both pics. But you look much cuter (and hotter ;)) in the first pic by the way you’re standing and I like that you’re sorta holding each other as opposed to just standing side-by-side holding hands. The second pic is less intimate and doesn’t seem to reflect the closeness of your relationship as well. Cute pics though, either way!

Miss Lovebug, you look like Renee Zellwiger! (Super cute and squinty!)

I know you didn’t ask, but I like the first one best!

Lovebug - This is a really cute idea! We’re also getting hitched at the Arizona Inn and we need to send some invites to the Sunday brunch - this may do the trick.

Have you settled on menus?

The first photo - it looks like you’re winking in that one, and the body language is much more cozy. Very cute.

Jeez I have barely thought about thank you’s myself!
