Accessorize Me

February 26th, 2008 @ 2:13 pm by Mrs. Sundae

Before I began trying on wedding dresses, I was convinced I wasn’t a veil type of girl. Then at the first bridal salon I went to they put a veil on my head and I had my first “I am a bride” feeling. Sold and sold. And when I started seeing pictures like this, I knew that I wanted a long one:Photo from knottie gen&char

I also knew I wanted something simple and didn’t want to spend a lot of money. I am sure that veilshop.com isn’t new to anyone, and I know that several other bees have blogged about the veils they ordered from there, but I had a little trouble navigating the site (being the veil novice that I am) so I thought I would share my experience as well. I didn’t want anything poofy, so I went with the standard fullness. It turns out that basically “fullness” means the width of fabric that is used, and depending on how it’s bunched together, it’s either more or less full. You can also adjust the fullness of your own veil by squishing (a very technical term) the fabric closer together at the comb or smoothing it out for less poof. The veil arrived in about two days and all wrapped up with a ribbon:

I went with the chapel length, and this is about how it looks when it’s on (this is a bad picture, it’s actually a little shorter).

I also didn’t want much on the edges of the veil, just something simple but slight enough that it can still be seen. I went with the “fine embroidered” edge and it was exactly what I was hoping for. I can take some better pictures of it if you’re interested!

I don’t have any pictures of me actually wearing the veil because I am rotten with the timer on my camera and we don’t have a full length mirror for me to take pictures of myself in. Are you wearing a veil? How did you decide on which type to buy?

Miss Sundae I’m wearing a long veil too! Extra long…cathedral length. When I tried on my first wedding dress I didn’t shed a tear and neither did my mom…but when I tried on my first veil, that was when the tears began to flow and the kleenex box was passed around! That was the moment I felt like a bride. I know I will always have an opportunity to wear beautiful dresses, but to wear a veil…that makes me feel like a bride!

I also didn’t initially see myself in a veil - until I actually saw myself in a veil at the bridal shop. Mine’s not quite as bridal as yours, being just elbow length, but our ceremony is at the country club rather than in a church. It has a simple finished edge (gold thread) and two rows of fairly large clear glass beads, spaced about an inch apart (both the rows and the beads) which I think gives it some sparkle without looking fussy. All credit goes to the saleswoman at the shop, who picked out the perfect one… although I tried on a dozen more, that was the best by far!

I’m in the process of hunting for a veil since when I tried the one I liked on in the store, it was $99. Um, no thanks. So thank you very much for this info!

I know just how you feel! Bought my veil this weekend from an eBay seller with several hundred options…. How can there be so many variations of something that’s just net and decoration?

FYI for anyone still looking, check Veils by Lana: http://stores.ebay.com/LANAS-WEDDING-ACCESSORIES-STORE
I went all out on one of her most expensive options, and it was still less than $35 after shipping.

I bought a short one at the ceremony…but really wanted a long one for looks (pictures) so I purchased a long one on target.com…I just knew I would trip on a long one so I went with a “cheap” one. The quality is actually pretty decent.

I didn’t want a veil either… until I tried one on. Mine is only elbow-length, though. I tried on the cathedral veils, and I admit that they are gorgeous, but they just weren’t me… so I went with a shorter one.

Wow, I never considered this. I wasn’t expecting to wear a veil but you have made me realise I should try one on to see how it feels. Thanks!
