Photobooks: A Nice Gift

February 26th, 2008 @ 6:44 pm by Mrs. Gardenia

My MOH recently gifted me a blurb book showcasing all of the pre-wedding events that we had, from our getting-to-know-the-wedding-party barbecue, my bachelorette/girlie gathering day, my work happy hour/bridal shower and the bridal shower.

I just love my blurb book and it makes for a great coffee table book to look at and remember how much fun we’ve had. It’s a standard hardcover book with a landscape layout, but it looks like they have tons of templates to choose from. Shipping took about a week and the cost is about the same as Shutterfly, maybe give or take a few dollars. Here are some pictures…

We also created a photobook guestbook for our wedding through Shutterfly. I had a great experience with them because I found the site very user friendly. I’ve been comparing different services like Shutterfly, Blurb, Kodak Gallery and others to find out which to use for our wedding and honeymoon photos. I think we’ll be making at least 6-8 photo books since we’ll be sending a book to our relatives that are out of the country and couldn’t make it to the wedding, plus a book for our honeymoon pictures as well.

Do you have any recommendations to make the decision making easier?

IMHO I really like Blurb. They have the best covers and the quality is the best. Mpix also has nice books and they recently added on a cover option.

Nice looking book! I’ve been getting my books made at Vioivo.com for a couple of years now. They offer a HUGE selection of sizes and their prices are awesome!

I recommend Blurb or My Publisher books. I have some pictures, tutorials, and free templates for Blurb books on my blog if you’re interested. I would also check out the Blurb Forums (link in my blog or you can google it : ) ). Good luck on your books!

Viovio is great….their books are beautiful, they definitely have the biggest selection of sizes, and their prices can’t be beat. I use them for all of my photo books.

Viovio is best if you are computer savvy and can make your own page layouts in photoshop or powerpoint. Just make sure whatever you upload is at least 300dpi and doesn’t have important elements around the edges.

Unlike the other photobook printers, viovio does not warn you when your resolution is “not recommended”

I’ve also used Picaboo and Shutterfly. I didn’t like Picaboo, but Shutterfly was good.

I use Walmart.com. It was very cheap for soft binded photobooks, just be sure to order in advance, as sometimes I procrastinate and wind up spending more in shipping than on the book!

for those who have used Blurb…i am currently doing a wedding photobk of my best friends wedding events. Do you know how to change the style on particular pages without changing the style for the entire book? For her wedding pics, I am doing the Baroque style but for her bach.party pics, i want to do those pages in the Deco style but when i try to do that, it converts all pages of the book to that style. Help!
