About Mrs. Cream Puff

One of the projects I am MOST excited about for our wedding isn’t even something I’m responsible for. My mom and my aunt, two extremely amazing ladies (seriously, my mom made us a GORGEOUS quilt for our bed and my aunt is a famous pattern maker) volunteered to make Mr. Cream Puff and I a custom chuppah for our ceremony. The chuppah will be hand-dyed silk with a multi-cultural, colorful theme.

This weekend, my mom and my aunt did a trial run–they had never dyed silk before, so they wanted to figure out how to do it. I drove up to my aunt’s house (about four hours north of San Francisco) to check it out. I was SHOCKED by what they had done! It was seriously far better than I could have ever imagined.

Here’s the chuppah, a work in progress. You can sort of see some white crystals on it…that’s sugar and salt:

Another view of the silk, still pinned to the frame:

The final product! Yes, that IS the Chinese symbol for “double happiness” inside the Jewish Star of David. I am THRILLED. The real thing will be much bigger (6 feet by 6 feet). They learned a lot about how to do this and see a lot of mistakes, but I think it’s PERFECT. Isn’t it beautiful?

Wow, that looks so pretty! And, you are so lucky that your families have been so accepting and welcoming of you cultural differences with FI. I’m very envious!

Wow, so lovely! I am also going to be making a chuppah but it’ll probably be a lot simpler since I can’t dye fabric and can only sew a little bit! ;) I should probably get started on that!

How big is it? It doesn’t look big enough but it’s hard to tell with them just holding it up like that.

What a lovely chuppah! Maybe you can keep this one and use it as a wall hanging?!

I love the mix of the two cultures and the gorgeous vibrant colors. The lining around the Star of David is gorgeous. I love the idea of having a mock up that is just as a treasure as the true chuppah that will be used.

There’s no reason why your actual chuppah can’t be used later as a wall hanging. I’ve always wanted a canopy type bed but instead I’m going to hang our chuppah over the bed and add some curtains on the side to create the canopy effect! :)

It’s gorgeous! Your fam is very talented! (I’m a Jew living in Beijing, so the double happiness-star of david design hits close to home for me)

Beautiful!!! The colors are SO vibrant!
Do you know how you will be attaching it to 4 poles? What type of poles will you be using?

Aw, thanks you guys! I am so impressed with them!

Yiska–that is GENIUS!!! I love it!!! It makes me wish we had a canopy bed. This is just a trial one–the real one will be 6ft x 6ft.

Lime–we are renting our poles from a local Jewish store called Afikomen. The poles have hooks on them so you can tie the chuppah to them with ribbon.
