Welcome To The Sunshine State

February 26th, 2008 @ 10:31 am by Mrs. Petunia

When my FMIL volunteered to put together our OOT guest bags, I breathed a sigh a relief for myself (one less thing for me to worry about, thankfully) and when she told me she would be using nylon, machine-washable “eco-chic” BAGGU bags, I breathed a sigh of relief for the environment, too:

The bags were purchased off Amazon.com for about $6 each: perhaps not the cheapest OOT bags, but certainly worth it, in my book, considering we’re hoping people will later use them, as she does, for grocery shopping and the like.

Supposedly, “using one Baggu for one year replaces 300 to 700 disposable bags.” They’re super cute, to boot, and come in about 15 or more colors (she went with the pink for ours!).

Ours will be filled, mostly, with Florida/beach-like goodies, like a delish rum cake and Goldfish crackers:I know there’s also some sort of tropical drink in a glass container (trying to avoid plastic altogether) and a travel tin candle that smells like the ocean (purchased at Michaels for $1 each!).

I can’t claim to be the “greenest” person in the world, by a loooong shot, but the bags just made me feel like we’re doing a little something good. Every little bit helps, no?

My original plan for the bags also had me including a good old Florida mystery paperback and some sort of beach favor, like these:

But I just never found the time to get them, the books would have probably gotten expensive, and anyway, I know a lot of favors like the cookie cutters go unused in the end. Best to spend our money on things that are consumable, me thinks!

see if you get a bunch of Kiehls samples maybe? Especially their sunscreen. How many OOT bags- maybe if there’s oodles then Kiehls wont be so ready to hand over all the product.

Maybe include some coupons to some goofy stuff- Like the Duck tour that leaves from South Beach- or the pirate cruise from Bayfront?

I Love the idea of Carl Hiassen books! but yes- cha ching after awhile- but very creative!!

Great idea! We’re actually using the reuseable bags that you buy at Whole Foods for $1. It’s the perfect size, cute, cheap and eco-friendly!

Such a cute idea! I love BAGGUs. I always carry a couple in my purse for unexpected trips to the grocery store.

i enjoy carl’s books…even though they’re kinda all the same [but isn’t that always the case anyway?]. i think edible goodies are always the safest and most appreciated bets.
