Hurray For UC Irvine!

February 27th, 2008 @ 12:44 pm by Mrs. Jasmine

Earlier this year, I posted about my desire to have a Bollywood dance performance at our wedding. I thought it would be the perfect way to introduce our friends to Indian culture and get the crowd in a festive, party spirit.

I’m happy to report that I found the perfect team: UC Irvine’s Sitaare! Sitaare is UC Irvine’s film dance team– they choreograph and perform dances set to popular Bollywood movie songs. Here is their latest performance from a national film dance competition, where they placed first in Hindi film dance:

(you can fast forward past the videotaped introduction: the dancing starts at 2:00)

I’m especially tickled by the Aladdin/Princess Jasmine theme they have going. Every year for Halloween, I ask Mr. Jasmine if we can dress up as Aladdin and Princess Jasmine. He hasn’t gone for it yet, but I’m holding out hope :)

Anyway, I’m so thrilled to have Sitaare perform at our wedding– especially because UC Irvine is my alma mater. I’m really excited to not only showcase a beloved part of our culture, but also my college, which holds a special place in my heart. Go Anteaters (yes, that is actually our mascot)!

Are any of you including your alma mater in your wedding?

Hurray for UC Irvine!

Your guests will be SO amazed!! How many dancers will you have, or will it be the whole troupe (everyone in the clip?) I hope your dancefloor is big enough!!

We definitely won’t have that many dancers! We’ll have five guys and five girls and I really hope our dance floor can even fit that many.

Go, UC’s! I had my harpist play (as a surprise) the “Sons of California” song as part of our recessional. Took people a few seconds to recognize it, and by then she’s segued into the Imperial Death March! (sounded neat on the harp)

I went to UC Irvine too! Class of 2003! Did you know that UCI’s Kaba Modern Dance Team is on that new dance show on tv hosted by Mario Lopez! They’re really good too! I really like the video you posted!
That’s going to be really entertaining at your wedding!
