Our Save the Dates are finally complete and as far as I know have been received by almost everyone, so I can finally share all the pictures. I bought a rose clipart file from clipart.com and used Adobe Illustrator to change it to a light green color. Then I flipped and turned the graphic and placed different parts of it around the square. That’s all of them above, waiting to be stuffed and sent.
Here is a close-up:
I wish that you could see the texture of the paper better, it’s the best part. I bought textured card stock from my local JoAnn Fabrics while they were having a sale. I cleaned out the entire bin because they were 5 sheets for $1, and I decided I could get two cards out of every sheet. Here is what the back looks like:
I cut the 12×12 paper in half and then printed on both sides to get a bi-fold card. I spent an embarrassingly long amount of time getting everything to line up on the printer, but it worked out in the end. There was some trimming to be done on each end, but I quickly realized that it was easier to make everything line up when I folded them first and then trimmed both ends together. Here is the inside, before all the trimming took place. They look much better without all the black lines that blur out the details but you can get the idea!
It turns out that some of the paper I bought was softer than other sheets, and the thicker sheets didn’t perform very well when folded. Basically the textured parts cracked and made the seam on the fold look uneven. I tried everything I could think of and then my MacGyver of a fiance suggested I steam each of them for a few seconds to soften everything up:
Not the most enjoyable task but it got the job done! For the back of the envelopes, I used my lovely customized address stamp from Expressionery. If you’re going to be living in the same place after you get married I highly recommend one, it took me about 10 minutes to stamp all of the envelopes (I used our first initials so we can use the stamp after the wedding):
And at last, they’re all in their respective envelopes and ready to go. I ordered the stamps from USPS.com, and they arrived two days later. I think the shipping was $1 or something minimal, much easier than fighting the lines at the post office.
I ordered the envelopes from Paper-Source, and printed everything on our trusty home printer. I can’t even begin to explain how relieved I am that they’re finished! The design and assembly really wasn’t that bad, but the printing was a labor of love. However, I did have a partner in crime who oversaw the entire process:
Since 90% of our guest list lives outside of Wisconsin, I included information on airports to use, travel options, and how to reserve rooms in our hotel blocks. Most of the guys that received them commented on it being too much information (this includes Mr. Sundae) but I think it was worth it.
Did you send save the dates? If so, did you create them yourselves?
