J’Adore Cake Accoutrements

I don’t know what it is about dessert tables or baked goods that make me salivate– I can’t decide between the visual presentation of delicious pastries or just the thought of the yummy goodness in my tummy.

Since we finally have our own home (yay!) I’ve been dreaming of all the fun parties and dinners we can finally have and the first thought that comes to mind is not the entree or attendees, it’s how will we serve dessert!

I’ve been eyeing cake domes and stands for the apartment for the longest time, but they could be used in a multitude of ways for a wedding! The ideas are endless: alternative centerpieces, dessert buffet, bridal shower gifts…

I planned on just purchasing one with a glass dome so that I can use it to store our bread items (Yes! Some use for an otherwise impulse buy!). But once I embarked on my cake stand crusade, I was amazed with the variety that was out there.

The Basic
My favorite in this category are the ones that come with domes that you can flip over and use as a punchbowl or a chips n’ dip stand. These aren’t very fancy, but they’re practical and the most affordable.

The Vintage
eBay has some really neat ones and I am particularly in love with anything made of milk glass. I even checked some vintage shops recently in search of a pink or blue milk glass stand, but alas, I was not meant to find one. These are the ones that I’ve been ogling on eBay.

The Nouveau
Why buy old, when you can buy new! Most of these are definitely vintage inspired but surprisingly a lot of them are much more affordable than vintage ones you find on eBay. This would be a very good option for a bride on a budget in search of some interesting display pieces. I love the Rosanna line that has both playful pastel stands as well as super mod black ones.

The Ideal
I found Clara French through vendor listings for a bridal event and was just blown away by the beauty of their pieces. The site is under construction so I emailed one of the owners, Micaela, who graciously sent me more beautiful eye candy. What I love most about their ceramics is that most of them are available for rent! The customized dessert plates would definitely be an addition to my registry wish list—they’d also be perfect as a bridal shower hostess gift or parents’ gift as well. Another unique feature of Clara French’s cake stands is that you can customize the color to match your event scheme. Genius! Email Clara French for more details about rental or purchase.

In the end, I just bought a simple, clear, glass stand with a dome from Macy’s as a starter. We don’t have any china or servingware yet, so ideally I’d want a cake stand to complement those items. For now… I can dream about delectable cake buffets. :)

Any other cake stand connoisseurs or collectors out there?

The Clara French’s are fabulous.

I am also in love with cake stands. I have several and plan to put more on my registry. W have a small table so I often use them to raise a centerpiece or another dish so more food fits on the table as well as use them to hold desert. I went in the opposite direction and bought plain white and clear glass dessert plates so that I can use a mix of stands with any china we might get.

Martha also has some new milk glass style reproduction cake stands. The one I have is darling with a lacey edge.

Miss Canary, these are some beautiful finds! And I’m totally with you on this one! I found one cake stand that I liked, and then two, now there are three cake stands on our registry. I couldn’t pick just one with so many to choose from! So I decided to start a cake stand collection. ;-)

I totally adore cake stands and actually want a fab cake stand for our wedding since it will only be regular cake size- were having a regular cake made for me as I am gluten free. And then the guests will get cupcakes- but I want to showcase my cake even though it will be small.

I am obsessed with cake stands! I’m not allowed to own anymore, in fact. I was given one as a gift (honestly, it’s a pretty boring one), but then inherited a couple, and then I found some I just HAD to have …

I meant to pick up this one–but I don’t think they sell it anymore…

But I love the Clara French ones you’ve found!

I still haven’t found a dome I like, and its’ been two years. I make my own cakes, so they tend to be a bit higher than the average one-tier frosting-heavy cakes from the local grocery store. As soon as I find one though, I’m posting about it!
