Color!

February 29th, 2008 @ 1:52 pm by Ms. Dahlia

In the process of designing our invitations (more on that to come, I promise!), I had some difficulties figuring out colors. I mean, I knew what colors I wanted, but was having a hard time getting what I saw on my computer screen to match with what came from the offset printer.Cue The New Big Book of Color, which provides numerous designs along with the corresponding RGB (for your computer screen) and CMYK (for offest printing) colors used in the designs.

(available at Amazon)

I spent an hour or so at Barnes and Noble leafing through it, and marking down the RGB and CMYK colors that I thought would work for our invitations. It definitely helped get me on the right track.

What design books have you found helpful while planning your wedding?

Oh SWEET! That is EXACTLY what I need right now. Thanks! Although the CMYK number that I got for a color in Photoshop isn’t the same in Quark - suggestions anyone?

this is an excellent resource.

i spent quite a bit of time the other week, thumbing thru the Pantone cards trying to find the right shade of burnt orange….only to realize that means nothing if i am trying to get a shade to match on my computer screen….

thank you again!

Oh yeah, I got a lot of mocking from my coworkers for matching fabric swatches to the Pantone swatch book, but hey, a couple of seconds for matching reds? Worth it.
