About Mrs. Donut

J’adore D’Orsay!

February 29th, 2008 @ 12:21 pm by Mrs. Donut

Way, way back, I mean like a year ago way back, I unexpectedly stumbled across a pair of shoes whilst looking for wedding inspiration. They were a lovely pair of d’orsay pumps in a gorgeous, dusty pale pink. Even though they were posed and fuzzy in the background of the picture, I was in love.

‘You should buy these,’ said my impulsive self. ‘Go ahead, get it out of the way.’

‘Wait a minute there, girly,’ chimed in the more rational side. ‘The wedding is over a year away. You haven’t even looked for a dress. You don’t know what other shoes might be out there. Wait a month or two. Look around. If you still love them, then buy them.’

In Paris they say you should dress from the shoes up and I wish that I had heard that adage before a few nights ago because what did I do? I waited. I looked. And I saw nothing that inspired the same warm fuzzies as these shoes. Unfortunately by this time, InStyle weddings had featured them in their magazine and inspired warm fuzzies in many brides. It was too late. My shoes were sold out.

Here they are, the shoes that got away, exactly the way I first saw them and how I will always remember them.

*Sigh* I wish I could say that I’m over it, but I’m not. I still google them every once in while, hoping a random and forgotten pair in my size will turn up somehow somewhere. Reluctantly I’ve begun searching for other options.

Snap out of it, little dreamer! I so can’t afford these shoes. But they are very very drool worthy.

These are far more realistic options:

Shoe No. 1

{Flash by Touch Ups}

Shoe No. 2

{Hello? Manolo much? These are Onyx Silk by Dyeables}

Shoe No. 3

{ Erica, also by Dyeables. Oh, so close to the Nina shoes in styling…}

Shoe No. 4

{ Jojus by Nine West, Piperlime}

Don’t get me wrong. These are all nice shoes, they just aren’t THE shoes. First off, obviously none of them are my beloved pink. Sure, I could dye shoes 1,2, and 3, except I’m not really that fond of dyed shoes. Their shelf life is so small, what with the shoe being all but ruined with the slightest drop of water. Forget about getting caught in a sudden downpour. Of all of these shoes, I think that I like number 4 the best. Silver was my first color of choice until I saw the Nina shoes. They just need a little… je ne sais quoi. Oh, wait! Yes, I do! SPARKLES!

i just bought those nine west jojus shoes in brown for a wedding i’m going to and i LOVE them! they just came in this week and, um, i’ve been wearing them a little everyday when i get home from work. you know, to break them in.

i got mine from amazon for only $24 but i just checked and they don’t have the silver ones. and i’d highly recommend getting foot petals or something for the balls of your feet too but i still adore my new shoes.

anywho, i say order them and check it out and then decide. no harm in that. though i’m not quite sure where you plan on putting the shoe charms, though the first and third pair of my faves. good luck!

I have to agree with you. #4 is the best.. and they are absolutely adorable! I love them! I say go for it! And I think I like either the first or second jewels best, depending on what matches your dress. LOVE!

I’m wearing the Nine West Jojus shoes in my wedding, and they are great. Because the fabric over the front of the shoe is soft, they don’t bind in the way that a lot of other shoes do.

I put foot petals in mine, and it almost makes them comfortable.

Miss Donut - I searched high and low for those same shoes! I actually managed to order them at one point, only to have them cancel the order on me because they didn’t have them in stock after all.

I ended up with a satin d’orsay pump from J.Crew… that I can’t seem to find on their website anymore.

BUT, I did find these and I think are divine: http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod92437191&catId=cat300240
and might just intrigue you.

GL with your search!

I have the ninewest shoes in red. And they look amazing. But they are not entirely comfortable for long hours of wear… and yeah i agree that you do need foot petals for them.

i wanted the same shoes in the same color. but i ended up getting them in the cream/tan color. i love them but they also hurt my feet. i found the same nina d’orsay pumps at nordstrom recently with a lower heel. Here’s the link. They have it in black silver and gold. and its called Culver if the link doesn’t work.

Keep your eye out. I know have seen those d’orsay pumps in the “Carrie” SATC style Manolos on ebay quite frequently. I almost bought a pair. I can’t recall if the were rip off manolo or real deals but I know I have seen them.

I LOVE the first pair!

Personally I like Shoe No. 1, but Shoe No. 3 is very unique and could work very nicely… Are you able to try all of these on? Sometime different peep toe shoes fit funny. Some are absolutely perfect, while others are too wide at the front and your toes can protrude out way too far for pretty :)

Shoe No. 3 with the ‘hope’ jewel could be really amazing

I have the Louboutins in pic #2. They are surprisingly comfy and the crepe is slightly shimmery. The picture does not do them justice.

I mean these… not pic #2

What size shoe do you wear? Its always helpfful to have more than one pair of eyes looking. Also, have you checked ebay.

How funny, I had Shoe #1 as my BM shoes and Shoe #2 as my own bridal shoe!! I loooooved my shoes but ALL of our feet hurt soooooo much!! We kicked off our shoes immediately after the ceremony, so just FYI that even though they feel comfortable at first, they cut off blood circulation!!

I had no luck with the touch up and dyeables shoes I tried, all felt uncomfortable and pretty poorly made. I bet the Nine Wests would work out better.

miss teaberry says:

hey, i know i am a few days late and i also didn’t read through all the posts, but i just got the same shoes for my wedding, but they have the lower heel. i got them from shoebuy.com because they have free shipping and free returns. they are called Nina Electra. the heel is a little lower though…it is about 2 and a half inches, but very comfy! :) mine are in white, so you could probably dye them to a pale pink. before i got this pair, i ordered (and then sent back for free - thanks shoebuy!) the dyeables erica that you have pictured above, but the heel is too high (about 3 and half inches). i personally think that the nina electra look like higher quality (i.e. the satin is not quite as shiny as the erica), but if you need a 3.5 inch heel instead of a 2.5 inch heel, go for the dyeables erica. good luck! :)

22.
CharlestonBride says:

I know you didn’t want dyeables but Nina makes dyeables and they have a style very similar to the ettoria but with a lower, narrower heel (2.5 in) and the fabric isn’t as matte. It’s called electra. Here is a link:

Good luck finding the perfect shoe!

There’s a shoe by Liz Claiborne called Massey that looks like the shade of pink you like. The shade is called rose gold. I saw them at DSW in NYC but I couldn’t find them on the internet.

Miss Donut– I just came back from a weekend in Chicago and I SAW YOUR SHOES at the Nordstrom there! I’m 99% sure it’s the same pair– and if you’re still in the market, it can’t hurt to call. Good luck!

homeimprovementninja says:

Hey! My cousin is the designer for Nina shoes. I’ll forward her your post, she will get a kick out of it. Sorry you didn’t get the shoes you really wanted.

Rahael says:

Your shoes are at nordstrom rack, but size 11, I too once was in love.
