Stress The Dress

February 29th, 2008 @ 3:17 pm by Mrs. Penguin

Wednesday, February 27, 2008.  A day that will go down in history.  The day that Miss Penguin LOST her appetite.

I was born hungry. While savoring my breakfast, I’m already thinking about what’s for lunch, and eventually, dinner. I have the appetite of a grizzly bear after a long winter’s nap.

But Wednesday was different. It was the day of truth. You see, my lovely and knowledgeable bridal consultant suggested that I buy the sample size that I had originally tried on of my dress. Only the sample size was a tad bit small. “Five pounds equals one inch… that’s what you need to lose,” she suggested. And against every piece of advice I’ve ever read saying it was an absolute no-no to buy a dress smaller than your real size, I agreed. Five pounds! Piece of cake!

Yeah… not so much. In the 3 months since purchasing the smaller-than-it-should’ve-been dress, I followed a lackluster “no snacks policy” during the weekdays and a uninspired commitment to hitting the gym 3 days a week. Meh.

So naturally, on Wednesday I woke up with that horrible pit in my stomach… What if it didn’t fit? Am I willing to give up my Taco Bell Fridays? Oh Heck Naw! I spent the day in a caffeine induced haze, ignored the big bowl of noodles that my mom made me for lunch, and occasionally ran to the bathroom to dry heave in a fit of nervousness. What was this strange new sensation? Jitters? Loss of appetite? My stomach… not hungry! My hands… not in the pantry!

Whether my dress was made larger than the sample, or whether I actually lost five pounds since purchasing the dress, I’m not quite sure. All I know is, it fit! And with a little room to spare!

I breathed a sigh of relief at the end of the day and celebrated with a Carne Asada burrito, enchilada style. Because what do you know…. the appetite returned. And Miss Penguin must feed the beast.

So there it is, the day that lives in infamy as the day that I lost my appetite. What a wild and crazy sensation it was, one that I’ve never experienced before, nor may I never experience again.Has it been hard for you to commit to workin’ on your fitness for your wedding?

Miss Penquin your dress bustle on your dress is beautiful! The stress of the last minute details leading up to the big day kept me out of the gym for the last month…

Miss P, I LOVE your dress, and you look awesome! I love the floor-length veil too. I know what you mean about the BPS…Bottomless Pit Syndrome, haha. In fact, I decided to wear a two-piece corset gown (instant waist!) with a poofier skirt just so I wouldn’t have to worry about dieting for a “skinny” dress, though I really liked the mermaid and trumpet skirt styles. You look great…more power to you. :)

Against all advice, I also ordered my dress a tad too small. I have until May to lose weight but at the rate I’m going, that might be a close call. I’m hoping spanx will help in a pinch!

You look great, btw!

Actually right before my wedding, I was pigging out! Like, I normally don’t eat fast food but I was eating McDonald’s, Taco Bell, KFC.. yeh… it was bad… luckily I didn’t gain any weight..

But I’m like you too.. I always plan my next meal!

I ordered my dress two dress sizes smaller from a 16 to a 12. I received it last month only to find that there was a wide gap but one month and 16 pounds later I have to tell all of you that it now fits!!!!!!!! I still want to lose about 4 more pounds to have it fit looser and be able to accomodate corset but I’m very proud of myself for having done this.

The dress is gorgeous!! And I love the veil with it!
Yes, I too have ordered a dress that is smaller than my measurements. But, my “measurements” were all different sizes!! And the “European” size that my rear was SUPPOSED to be just wasn’t happenin. SO - I ordered it 2 sizes smaller. BUT - I have until November.
For Christmas I wanted a gym membership - which I got - but it has been one thing after another to really get going on a workout plan! My knee, a sinus infection, bosses in town and in need of entertaining…. Boo! I totally feel you about it being hard to get and stay motivated!
And just like you, I swear, I can eat like a bear!! I think on some nights I could totally out-eat my fiancee! (I try not to, though!)

I had this exact experience this week. I came in to visit my dress, which I ordered two sizes too small in November (well, I’m a 14 bust 16 waist and 18 hip and I ordered a 14) I knew that I had lost weight (~10lbs), but I was thinking as I went in - ‘Melissa, why on earth did you do this to yourself? If you have to have it let out, it’s going to cost you a bloody fortune, and only cause of your own idiocy’ Luckily, it fits like a glove. And - like my own glove - not some skinny person’s glove :P
