Here Come The Newlyweds

March 3rd, 2008 @ 2:42 pm by Mrs. Cupcake

When I saw ads for ABC’s new reality series Here Come the Newlyweds, I wasn’t sure if I’d love it or be annoyed by it. However, Mr. Cupcake and I did always find ourselves giggling at the one commercial where a woman asks “how many times per week is the right amount of times to be having sex?” and a couple responds at the same time:

Her: “Two.”
Him: “FIFTY!”

Giggle, giggle. Snicker, snicker.

I decided to give the show a shot on Sunday evening, and was pleasantly entertained. Not as much by the reality competition aspect of the show (never thought I’d admit it, but I’m actually getting kind of sick or reality competitions), but by the little interviews with the couples that show their personalities and dynamics. The seven couples include an arranged marriage, a couple who eloped after knowing each other for only a few months, a “love at first sight couple,” and high school sweethearts who have been together for 14 years. There is lots of joking, laughing, bickering, and eye-rolling — just like at home!

Did anyone else watch? What’s your verdict?

ha! we watched it last night and were also pleasantly surprised (however, our expectations were very very low). We cracked up at the “kiss” competition!

I was initally entertained, but then got bored by the reality competition part. They were drawing it out too much…seemed sllloooow.

My husband I watched together and we were also pleasantly surprised. The Moutras are funny!

We watched it whenever Breaking Bad (that show is so awesome) went to commercials. I think I missed the best parts, but it seemed okay.

I watched it and was also surprised how much I enjoyed it. FI was really excited about it, but ended up falling asleep. I don’t think it was the show that put him to sleep tho. The host seemed better than most.

I did. LOVED it!

I was sad that the couple that went home were the ones that were sent packing, though. I thought the older couple should have gone, gosh darnit. (Simply because of their inability to contribute to the “pot” at the beginning of the show, of course. They seem like they’ll be entertaining, for sure!)

The Ken & Barbie couple really do look frighteningly similar to each other…;)

I thought it was hilarious and I especially enjoy the “interview” portions with the host. I think he has the most hilarious insight into the game!
Fiance loved it too surprisingly enough :)

I think the show should have been limited to people who have only been married once (first & hopefully only marriages). Fine to have an older couple…but an older couple married for the 1st time…not the 3rd and 4th time each! I just don’t think it’s fair to the other couples. Kind of like having a baby shower for someone who’s had 3+kids back to back. They look so greedy too…I wish them the best in their marriage, but I don’t think they should win the big pot. Any of the other couples would be fine in my mind.

The funniest couple were the high school sweethearts - totally relatable and seemed like people you’d want to hang out with.

My husband and I stumbled across the show the first night it premiered and were hooked ever since. Yes, the Moutras were very funny! John & Crystal made me so proud. I’m so happy they won the prize and I think they deserve it. I wish there was spin off show so Johnnie can keep us laughing as “he” goes all the way to the bank with their $$$. He’s quite the star & Crystal is a sweetheart so I wouldn’t be surprised to see them on TV again in the near future
