Wiki: Registries

March 3rd, 2008 @ 5:39 pm by Wiki

It’s kinda intimidating to start editing wikis, so I thought maybe we could work together on a few posts together.

Check out this article on Registries that we outlined:

Please help us fill in the lists of Popular Registries, Popular Items, Registry Tips, Alternative Registries, and Weddingbee Posts (on that last note, you can find Weddingbee Blog and Board posts on registries here).

Or if wikis are entirely too intimidating, you can comment here and someone will transfer your thoughts into the wiki article on registries! Here are the areas where we could use your thoughts and tips:

  • Popular Registries
  • Popular Items
  • Alternative Registries
  • Registry Tips
  • Weddingbee Posts

Please comment below and help us flesh out this article!

If you go to the “tags” above and click on “registry” it should list pretty much every registry post. I know Miss Daffodil had a super helpful one not too long ago.

(because I’m too lazy to register)

“Another great opportunity to take advantage of when registering is to find out if a location near you is having an event for Wedding Registries. Usually, the store is opened only for the event attendees, they have staff with knowledge on the different departments on hand, and you usually walk away with either some fun freebies or a full stomach!

If you also have the chance after registering online, try to visit the store that you are registered at! It is a great time to look at & touch things, along with asking the store staff for more information about what you may want”

You might also want to change the line that says “Fancy China” to “Fine China” or “Dinnerware”. Same for silverware - it is more commonly seen as “flatware”

OMG can I comment on this post again sheesh…but it would be kind of fun for you guys to kick off the Wiki with a “wiki of the day” just like this one where you post it and ask people to contribute to that specific one…Look how good this one got after a bunch of contributions!

The only reason I know this much crap Peng (and Mr. Bee) is because i’ve been working at Williams-Sonoma for FIVE YEARS NOW. It’s so, so sad.

How about wiki articles by city– you could add specific information about venues or good places to take engagement photos.

Bed, Bath, and Beyond is definitely a popular place to register. Definitely do a wide range of priced gifts. I hear the rule of thumb is 2-3 registry items per invited guest.

@sakoro - That’s definitely the vision for the wiki. Vendor and city guides are next up… :-)

Might just want to add a line about investigating the store’s return policy should you receive more than one of the same item. We just nixed one of our registries because of a poor return policy (and slow updating) (not sure if it’s appropo to say which store here (first time commenting)…happy to share though…)

great idea with the wiki! hopefully people will catch on to the way it works- it will be a great place to stockpile all the knowledge floating around here! often everyone has the same questions- this will be a great resource.

my FI and i actually set up our own wiki for planning- it’s great. he’s a techie but i had no experience with them. it’s been a great tool for gathering ideas, documenting where we are in planning, and sharing our ideas with our families and friends who are helping out.
