When not wedding planning, I'm playing with our dog and 4 cats, Ebay shopping, or watching too much TV (often simultaneously!).

Weather Obsessed

March 5th, 2008 @ 11:29 am by Mrs. Tulip

With the wedding only a few weeks away, and March weather doing its usual crazy March weather thing, I’ve become slightly obsessed with the question of what the weather will be like on our wedding day.

The other night, I combed the Internet for month-long weather forecasts, and there were a few. But they were hard to read and didn’t seem to agree with one another.

And then? I found my Holy Grail. Turns out my usual go-to weather website, Weather Underground, has something called a “Trip Planner” that analyzes 30 years of statistical data for any location and date. Yes, it’s intended for travel, and I’ve definitely run our honeymoon locations to check the typical temperatures. But what a great idea for weddings too.

Or, maybe not so great. Apparently, we have a 17% chance that the weather will dip below freezing (though the average high is 55 degrees) and a 31% chance of rain. So now I’m obsessing about THOSE numbers!

Anyone else keeping your fingers crossed in a big way??!

I am glad that you find the trip planner useful. We built it for my wedding, it is perfect both for the wedding location and the honeymoon. For some reason it got the name trip planner, and not wedding planner?? Congratulations and good luck with the weather!

Oh heck yeah!!! We have 11 days!! So as of tomorrow we’ll be able to see the wedding on the 10 day forcast! The wedding is inside, but we’re hoping to take all the pics outside! This feels like the last big milestone before it’s actually here! Yay!!!

Perhaps the one and only thing I am NOT worrying about. The weather is almost always hot and dry here that time of year, and lovely in the evening, but I wasn’t taking any chances with outside venues (primarily because we do get some wind). I am sure there will be enough other things to worry about!

Thanks for posting this!!! I’ve been stressing of late because of my outdoor reception. Glad to see that there’s only a 15% chance of rain. Phew!

I’m glad it won’t be too hot (June in Virginia), but even though it says there’s only a 19% chance of precipitation, it’s thunderstormed 5/7 past years. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for no rain… even clouds and wind are cool =)

Thank you for this! I’m obsessing over the weather for my March 29th wedding in Chicago! Could be …. snowing … but I hope not!

I know I must have stocked 5 different weather sites leading up to my wedding. http://www.accuweather.com/ has a 15 day forecast (and I thought they were the most right on as far as predicting weather). But with that said, rain or no rain… you just can’t control. I should know, I had an outdoor reception and it did indeed rain… just enough to let me have two minor heart attacks that day. :)

how muc do i love you right now?

i am no where near my wedding date (11/01/08) but its cool to find out that there is literally NO chance of rain on our wedding day. historically it just has NOT rained on my wedding day in my location.

how awesome is that????

i know things could change of course. but its comforting to know that historically God has said no to rain on 11/01. LOL.

We used/abused the wedding planner at weather.com, which included stuff like sunrise, sunset, and “civil dusk,” which was something I’d never heard of–beyond the actual time of the sun setting, civil dusk describes when it’s actually going to get dark.

Most Satisfying Use of Weather Website for Wedding Planning
FMIL: Last year on that date, it poured all day.
Me: No, it didn’t.
FMIL: Well…not that date, but that weekend.
Me: No, it didn’t.
FMIL: Yes, it did. I remember.
Me: Okay, I’m looking at the stats for that month, and the whole month there were 4 days of rain totalling .2 inches.
FMIL: Well…maybe it was the year before.
Me, thinking: No, not then, either.
Me, aloud: Maybe that was it.

Yep I am totally worrying about the weater. We are getting married the 29th in Galena, IL 3 hours from our home. ALL of our guests are traveling and the area is HILLY to put it nicely. So Bee’s give me some magic weather vibes ’cause we dont want SNOW! The resort is down a 45 degree angle hill and our chuch is down two more just like it so pray for me. Skiing in my car not on my fun to do list. Good luck all you fellow March brides!
