Buying In Bulk

March 7th, 2008 @ 6:23 pm by Mrs. Hydrangea

For our reception, I plan on incorporating vases with our escort cards, which our guests can then take to find their tables and also take home as favors. 2-in-1, can’t beat that.

This was my inspiration for the idea (from The Knot).

Instead of using round vases, I decided that I wanted cubes. Because we want them large enough for people to reuse, but small enough to carry, the size that we chose (3″-3.5″) was listed for use as vases on some sites and votive holders on others (just in case you are looking too).

After calling local wholesale places, floral suppliers, checking E-bay and doing Google searches, I realized that I was looking at spending as much on shipping as I would on the 200+ vases I would need. After a suggestion from one supplier to check out dollar stores, I came across the Dollar Tree Direct.

They sell their products on the site in bulk, and you can also have them check on items that you find in-store as well. The best part? If you pick up from your local store, you only have to pay $4.95 in handling. NO SHIPPING CHARGE!

We ordered their 3″ square vases (pictured above) and will be picking them up next week. As for the favors, I’ll keep you posted on their progress as it happens!

Wait, don’t go dollar tree!!! I did the exact same thing, courtesy of lickaflea from the knot (the same image you have above). We got mini vases from Save-on-crafts, and they were adorable. The vases are like 1.5 ounces, and super inexpensive. And now that I already bought mine (I got the hex ones in clear) they know offer colored ones, which I love more.

Miss Hydrangea-I think I love you! I was about to buy 36 vases at Michael’s for $4 a piece and they have the exact same ones at dollar tree. I just ordered them now! (Didn’t bet on this, but their customer service was awesome.) YAY! Thanks!

Miss Hydrangea, I’m thinking of doing a similar thing. Are you going to have floral centerpieces on the table, a different type of centerpiece, or no centerpiece? I can’t decide how to mesh the floral escort card/favor with another floral centerpiece on the table, once all the guests put their favors on the table, you know?

I think I might have those same vases! At least, it’s a pretty close description, and I bought them at the dollar store (though I can never remember which store matches which name….). Assuming they ARE the same, they’re just great. Heavy glass, and attractive. No one would EVER guess that they were just $1.

[...] anchor them a little…what do you guys think? I was just on weddingbee.com and saw this post Buying In Bulk Weddingbee. I think this will be perfect for my escort table. And at a dollar a vase, you can’t beat it! [...]

great idea! I did something similar for my wedding but we put rosemary plants inside of them. But for those who are near los angeles area, you can actually go to the flower mart in downtown and get them for even cheaper. I got mine for like 70 cents a piece. It’s this place called Moskatels 738 Wall Street. Check in out!

Miss H,

What a great find! Can you post a link to the ones you ordered? I can’t find them on the website.

Thanks! You rock!

hwong14 - We are having floral centerpieces, but I am going to keep the flowers in the vases simple and matching with the arrangements. I figure once everyone is seated and has drinks, food, etc. on the table, it won’t matter as much.

Jennifer - I found them here:

Hopefully that link will work, if not, go to the party section and it’s towards the very last page of available items!

This is incredible–most small towns now have Dollar Trees. The shipping costs on Save-On-Crafts.com are so deceiving.

Our florist also recommended duckybob for vases, and a warehouse store out in Mesquite whose name escapes my mind. (She also said not to go to that store alone, mostly for carrying the load but also for safety)

Miss Hydrangea,
I was wondering what you thought of these vases after you picked them up. Do you think they would work well for small flower arrangements?
Thanks for any help you can give me!

Escort Card Dilemma » Weddingbee » The Wedding Blog

[...] Our original plan to have vases with our escort cards has been shot down, and for good reason. If we passed out the escort cards like this during the cocktail hour, how would guests hold those, their drink AND get some hors d’oeurves? Quite a handful. [...]
