Wiki of the Day: Maid of Honor

March 7th, 2008 @ 1:53 pm by Wiki

Yesterday’s Wiki of the Day on bridal shower games was pretty awesome. I wish I had known all these games when I threw my first bridal shower for a friend! We just did the Toilet Paper wedding dress game, Bride/Groom Trivia, the Purse Game, and some pop culture trivia games. Actually in retrospect it was a lot of fun, but it was a lot of research at the time.

Today’s Wiki of the Day is on the Maid of Honor. I’ve been a MOH once and had one MOH for my own wedding. My biggest shock from being a MOH was how expensive it was! Even though the bride paid for my dress, hair, and makeup… I still ended up paying for the bridal shower (and gifts), bachelorette party (and gifts) and wedding gift. The whole bridal party chipped in, but everything cost me well over $1k! I had just turned 24 and had no idea that attending weddings were going to be one of the big expenses in my life over the next few years :-).

Anyway please help us fill in the Maid of Honor wiki article. We outlined a few sections in the article to fill in: Responsibilities, Tips on how to select your MOH, Tips if you *are* a MOH, and links to Weddingbee Posts. Please fill it in with your wisdom and experiences!

I love the wiki’s. But my one comment for the bridal shower one…. is there a place where we can add sentimental ideas in addition to fun games. My mom and girls are planning my shower and have this really neat idea (probably not new) about creating a journal with advice from the bridal shower guests about how to be a wife in general and specifically a wife to my future husband and how to deal with him ;).
Less game but still a bridal shower idea.

I have a question regarding shower etiquette that I thought the all knowing bees would be able to answer. I am the Maid of Honor (along with my stepsis) in my stepsister’s wedding. We come from a pretty small town back at home. We are hoping that someone from our church will offer to throw my stepsis a shower, but so far, no luck. I know that it is wedding etiquette for the MOH to throw the shower, but I also heard that it is poor etiquette for a sister or the MOB to throw the shower. My grandmother would be quite upset if I was the one hosting the shower. Any suggestions?

The MOH page doesn’t seem to be working. When you click “edit” it says that the page doesn’t exist.
