Japanese Bride and Groom Figures

March 9th, 2008 @ 1:41 pm by Mrs. Ant

During our honeymoon in Japan last Spring, I spotted these adorable wooden figures of a bride and groom.

I wish I could tell you more about them, but I must apologize for my ignorance. My best guess is that they could function as both cake-toppers and later as home decor. Do any readers know the history or cultural significance of these wooden figures?

Also, I blogged about our minimoon in St. Lucia, but never blogged about our honeymoon in Japan because it seemed like an unusual destination. Would anyone be interested in learning more about our trip to Tokyo, Mt. Fuji, and Hakone last April?

Yes! Japan is my dream destination for my wedding and if not my wedding, then my honeymoon and I think it is uber romantic (can you say hello cherry blossoms and relaxing hot springs ? Not to mention all of the sexy food- the presentation makes everything so enticing. Long story short, I went there 5 years ago and have been counting down the days until I can go back, so do tell!

Oh! We ordered similar dolls for our cake topper! They’re called kokeshi dolls, and a vendor on etsy will customize them for you. We’re going to Japan for our honeymoon in 3 weeks, so I would love to hear your two cents as well!

I went to Japan for two weeks in July last year aswell, actually, I got proposed to there! :D In the middle of Asakusa near sensouji ! I miss it! My fiance and I have such a extreme love for Japanese culture to begin with, it only seems like the most logical choice to go there for our honeymoon! When we came back from our trip, we felt like it was home and we were reminiscing and longing for it left and right! My mom thinks it’s weird but she does not understand how much of an impact that country made to us! When I tell her we are going there for our honeymoon, she’s like, ” why there again!” you should go to Hawaii or some other place….” Did you know it costs almost the same to go to Hawaii ? I rather go to Japan, if we could live there we would! ^.^ Everyone is so nice and welcoming and it just feels like home. I can’t wait to go back! this time we are going to go to Kyoto as well as Tokyo!
