About Mrs. Shortcake

*Shortcake stands up*

“Hello ladies and gentlemen. My name is Miss Shortcake, and I am a plan-aholic. I obsess about any and every detail, no matter how miniscule. I make to-do lists for my to-do lists. My wedding binder is over 6 ” thick and has sub-tabs for its sub-tabs. I bought a fifty-pack of crayola markers to color code my shopping list. Hello, my name is Miss Shortcake, and I am a micromanager.”

Perhaps I take it too far. Perhaps I took the girl guide motto “be prepared” too much to heart.

In any case, planning our wedding has been the “perfect” outlet for my obsessive-compulsive planning disorder! Woo!

I’ve also found that wedding sites (coughweddingbeecough) are a wealth and a treasure trove of information for me to ponder, sort, and file alphabetically.

For example, from Ann Ruthman’s blog, I learned this helpful tip (now filed under “WEDDING DAY - BODILY FUNCTIONS”)

If you have a long train, sit on the potty backwards! Genius!

Now, with pen and highlighters at the ready, I ask:

What obscure (but totally useful) advice/tips did you get that helped you on your big day?

i’m sure i’m like the only bride alive who didn’t think of it, but my planner pointed out that if you have your, ahem, lady time is pretty regular, make sure you aren’t planning to have your big day and your big P on the same day! that struck me as pretty brilliant, because it wasn’t even something i considered when picking my date while also being something that would just add stress.
so if you haven’t picked a day yet, work it out around your body!

I have to go with ShannonD on this one. I am shocked, SHOCKED, I tell you, at how many people don’t plan around their periods! I would have thought that would have been a no-brainer. For me, I wish I had known ahead of time that people might think the bug-spray wipes we had for everyone were wet-ones. A few people wiped them all over their hands and faces before realizing what they were!

“They make chocolate marshmallows, you know.”

Took the post-reception s’mores to a new level.

I asked my FSIL if she had any regrets from her wedding, and she only had two: Wished the dance floor had been in the middle of the tent instead of closer to one end, and wished she had remembered to reapply lipstick at some point after the ceremony. Both were good advice, and also really small regrets!

Drink herb tea the morning of the wedding to calm nerves (and soften urge to “micro-manage” ;) )!
