Wiki of the Day: Green Weddings

March 10th, 2008 @ 7:10 pm by Wiki

In honor of the Bee Green Challenge Contest, we thought a green wedding wiki of the day was appropriate!

So please comment below with your best green wedding tips, or add directly to the wiki yourself!

I spent a good portion of the weekend writing and editing entries, and I have to say that I’m surprised how addicting it all is!  I’m just so excited when I envision the long-term potential of the wiki - it’s definitely my favorite weddingbee feature to date!

So if you haven’t already, please give adding to or editing the wiki a try.  It’s so much easier than you might think. :)

my sweet man and I are trying to have as small a footprint as possible with our wedding, and in addition to all the great ideas in the wiki, here are our best strategies (all of which I hope will be compatible with having a fun, memorable, and beautiful day):

- the ceremony is in a public park within walking distance of home, where we’ll hold the reception
- dinner is catered by a 100-year-old family-owned local meat market, with a locally-raised hog roast and as many other local ingredients as possible. we have local veggies, local cheese, local bread, etc.
- instead of buying or renting new or new-ish tableware, I’m planning to work the vintage country-bride look by gathering coordinated but mismatched vintage things from thrift stores.
- because we’re having the reception at home, in September, we can plant many of the “decorations” in the ground! By the day of the wedding, we’re planning to have a huge sunflower hedge and zillions of dahlias. My best friend, FMIL and I are growing extra flowers for bouquets in her yard.

Sort of a long comment, sorry :).
