For the most part, having things done ahead of time is a MAJOR blessing. Sometimes, however, it can be a bit of a catastrophe.
Several months ago, I reserved a block of rooms at a very cute boutique hotel less than a block from our reception site. I thought it was perfect. Apparently my uncle disagreed.
When he called to make reservations, he found out there was no air conditioning, which did not make him happy. He called my parents to tell them about the lack of air conditioning, and subsequently my dad was not happy. Both of them were so not happy, in fact, that they decided we needed to change the block of rooms to a bigger hotel. Nevermind the fact that this is San Francisco, and air conditioning is totally unnecessary. Apparently it was a big deal to them. As much as this annoyed me, I decided it was okay. Whatever, right? So they wanted to move us to another hotel. I can roll with the punches as easily as the next gal.
Except for the fact that I ALREADY PRINTED OUR INVITATIONS WITH THE OTHER HOTEL ON IT.
Oh. Lord.
Now, my mother tells me that this is not a problem. She says we can call all the relatives that would be staying in a hotel and tell them where we’re all going to be. However. I really want the invitations to be accurate, and it seems kind of tacky to be calling people to correct information that should be printed correctly on the invitation to begin with.
To me, a lot of the fun is running into your family members in the hotel, and I don’t want half of them to be in a different hotel, just because they don’t have the info for the correct hotel printed in front of them. So I went to my invitations and checked to see how hard it would be to pull one of the printed panels off and replace it with a new one. As it turns out, it wasn’t that difficult. A lot of wasted paper, yes, but not that big of a deal. I took care of it tonight, and it only took me one episode of Breaking Bad and one episode of Law and Order: SVU. I still think I’m glad that I did them early, but lordy, now I’m wondering what else will need to be changed.
Did any of you finish a project, only to learn later that something needed to be changed?
