Attire For The Little Ones

March 12th, 2008 @ 10:26 am by Mrs. Toucan

After searching high and low, I finally have found dresses for our flower girls! Notice that I wrote flower girl - plural.

Let me step back for a moment, I have 6 flower girls! I know that you all probably think I’m crazy for having so many kids in my wedding party, but coming from a big family, how do you choose whose kids you want to participate?! I ended up asking all of my cousins’ kids who will be above the age of 4 at the time of our wedding to be a part of our day. When I asked all the kids (and their parents), they were nothing short of thrilled, and I could not be more excited. How cute is 6 little girls (and 1 boy) going to look coming down our long church aisle?!

Okay, back to the dresses. Having so many kids in the wedding party created a minor little problem. Actual “flower girl” dresses seemed to cost $150+ and with 6 little ones to outfit, it just didn’t fit into our budget (per Chinese tradition, we pay for all of our attendants’ attire). My original plan was to buy dresses off the rack (hello, Easter season!) to save some cost, but since the girls range in age from 4 to 9 and size 4 to 10, finding matching outfits is pretty close to impossible. So, it was back to actual “flower girl dresses.” Finally, I found this (modeled by my youngest attendant):

Her face is blotted out for privacy-
which is a shame, because she’s so stinkin’ cute!

This girl is a natural model! Look at her delicate
hand placement, as she models the back of the dress!

I bought the dresses from The Briar Patch, and so far have had a good experience. I have been told (I haven’t seen the dresses in person) that the dresses look better in person than the picture on the website, and the only gripe so far, is that only the bottom half of the dress is lined (the girls will have to wear a slip). The best part of these dresses - the girls LOVE them! They all were super excited to try them on, and my cousins have already found them matching cream colored shoes:

Matching Shoes. (seriously. natural. model. check out that toe point!)

I’m super thrilled with how the dresses look, and that the girls are happy with them! They are going to be SO CUTE at our wedding!

The dress is really cute! I have the same issue with my flower girls (we have 4 his 2 nieces and my 2 nieces) regarding the dresses. They range in age from 3 to 9 and finding something that works for all of them will be hard, especially the oldest verse the youngest. We are considering having my Mom make shifts for all of the girls so that they all match.

The boys (we also have 4, his 2 nephews, my nephew and my youngest brother) were easy. The men are wearing navy suits so the boys will wear navy pants with white button downs and sailboat ties we found for them.

i am so happy to read about someone else having a gaggle of kids in their wedding. what was the age range of your flower girls? i have nieces and a nephew who range in age between 3-12 (for a total of 6 kids) and have been trying to figure out how to incorporate them into the wedding. we originally weren’t planning on having any attendants, but may add the kids plus one adult attendant. how many attendants are you guys having in addition to your flower girls?

@tberry: That’s so nice that your mom can make the dresses for you! We actually considered asking my aunt to make the dresses too, but 6 of them sounded like too much work for her!

@Mr. Bee: Yes, 6 flower girls! Luckily, my own dress was way under the budget I set for myself! I used the extra money from my dress budget for the attendants attire!

@Nadine: The flower girls range from 4 years to 9 years in age! I haven’t decided whether or not to give them “jobs” or not, yet. I have thought about having 2 of them carry a “here comes the bride” sign like Mrs. Radish, but with kids, sometimes you have to be careful. You don’t want them getting jealous of each other…
As for attendants, we’re having 4 attendants each. The 4 groomsmen will hopefully keep the ring bearer in line (and hopefully will stay in line themselves…). 2 of the flower girls are a bit older (9 years old), and they can watch after their respective siblings…

So cute! I love the idea of having more than one flower girl.

On a side note, where did your FG get her cute shoes?
